Proximity Sensors andSwitches

Proximity sensors and switches generally fall into three main types: inductive proximity sensors, capacitive proximity sensors and magnetic field proximity sensors. They are often just referred to as proximity switches. Those that are short range devices are sometimes known simply as touch switches. Inductive proximity sensors are ideal for most applications that require non-contact detection of metallic objects in either automation equipment or machinery. They always feature short-circuit protection and come in smooth or threaded stainless housings. Capacitive proximity sensors can detect both metallic and non-metallic materials. Magnetic field sensors are often used in steel hydraulic applications. Proximity sensors and switches can be used in flow level control applications and are also commonly used in machine vibration monitoring, making them ideal for turbines, compressors and many motor applications.
