Ultrasonic Sensors

Ultrasonic sensors are devices that enable position detection and distance measurement of solids, liquid and powders. The detection is extremely reliable, and the distance measurement is continuous. Ultrasonic sensors work by transmitting and receiving sound waves in the ultrasonic range. The object that is being detected does not come into contact with the sensor. There are two main types of ultrasonic sensor. A diffuse reflection sensor is used to enable the direct detection of specific objects. Its sensor transmits an ultrasonic pulse which is reflected by the object. A retro-reflective sensor sees the ultrasonic pulse reflects against a reflection surface. These are a more suitable choice when the alignment of the object to the sensor is variable. Ultrasonic sensors are used extensively in the packaging and food industries. They can operate with reliability even when conditions are dusty, misty or heavily soiled.
