Converters

A power converter receives an electrical input, then changes the nature of the current received, sending out a different output. They are used to increase/decrease the magnitude of the input voltage, invert the polarity or produce multiple output voltages of either the same polarity as the input or with mixed polarities. Typical examples of this are converting AC to DC or DC to AC; however, they can also convert AC to AC and DC to DC. DC to DC converters are one of the most common types of converters, being used for an assortment of applications such as computer power supplies, DC motor control circuits and board level power conversion and regulation.
