2. BOHS P401 Identification of Asbestos in Bulk Samples (PLM). Held at clients own premises for groups of personnel.
This proficiency module aims to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of asbestos sample identification using polarised light microscopy (PLM). Candidates for this course are expected to be aware of the contents of HSG 248 (Asbestos: The Analysts Guide) and in particular Appendix 2 'Asbestos in Bulk Materials;sampling and identification by polarised light microscopy (PLM). Candidates will preferably have prior experience of analysis of bulk samples and may already be participating in a quality control scheme.
Safe Handling of Asbestos Waste (including fly-tipped waste. Held at clients own premises, suitable site or venue for groups of personnel.
This training course is intended for anyone who is required to handle asbestos waste, deal with emergency spillage or clean up illegally dumped asbestos waste materials. Trainees will learn about site safety procedures, emergency procedures, safe handling of asbestos waste including fly tipped waste, recommended equipment, suitable RPE/PPE and personal decontamination.

A one-day course on how to deal with property that has suffered from fire, flood or vandalism. Intended for anyone who is required to inspect premises damaged by fire, flood (through burst pipes etc) or vandalism and needs to assess the risk associated with that damage and make an informed decision on the precautions to be taken to secure the area and actions required to prevent further damage.
Trainees will learn about the specific associated resks, current legislation and guidance, on-site inspection procedures, risk assessment and priorty action plan, how to secure the area, prevent unauthorised access, working safely including emergency procedures and waste clearance, RPE/PPE and procedures for decontamination of personnel and site.
Duty to Manage. Understanding Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations. Held at clients own premises, site or venue for groups of five or more personnel.
This one-day course is to cover the 'duty' under Regulation 4 of CAR 2012, who it applies to, its scope and requirements of the Duty. Intended for anyonewho is defined as the 'Duty Holder' and is required to assess whether premises contain asbestos, assess the risks from any asbestos found and take action to manage that risk.
Trainees will learn about asbestos containing materials (ACM's), health risks, the scope of Reg.4 and the duty-holders legal responsibilities, surveys and types, material and priority risk assessment, developing an asbestos management plan and safe systems of work.
Understanding Asbestos Surveys. Types, Requirements and Procedures. One day course held at clients own premises.
Provides an introduction to asbestos surveys and their content, for personnel who do not necessarily require a formal qualification. Intended for anyone who is responsible for inspecting premises with a view to locating and assessing the condition of any asbestos-containing materials identified. Trainees will learn about identification and likely locations of asbestos, an overview of legislation and guidance, survey tpes and safe working procedures, risk assessment, safe sampling techniques, preparing the survey report and keeping and updating an asbestos register.
Site safety passport. CCNSG (Client/Contractor National Safety Group). Held at clients own site, premises or venue. After successfully completing the two-day course, individuals will be awarded a 'Safety Passport' which is then valid for three years.
This two-day CCNSG Safety Passport programme provides essential training for all site personnel to ensure that they have a basic understanding of health and safety. All site personnel and indicuals going on site need basic knowledge of health and safety. Enabling them, after the appropriate site indusction, to work on site more safely and lower the risk to themselves and others. Trainees learn about safe behaviour at work, safe places of work, confined space entry, excavations, permit to work systems, safe use of access equipment, working at heights, site transport, protecting the environment, safe lifting and manual handling, safe systems of work, asbestos, hazardous substances, LOLER, PUWER, electricity, isolation, hand-arm vibration andnoise. the programme also involves a significant amount of trainee participation.

BOHS (British Occupational Hygiene Society) P402 Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings is a Proficiency Module carried out over three days. Two days of classroom training and one day of exams. The exams consist of:

3. Written Theory Exam
All three must be passed to achieve the certificate.
The syllabus for this course is set by BOHS and is the minimum recognised qualification to undertake asbestos surveys. The module provides practical knowledge about the surveying of buildings for asbestos and the management procedures necessary to minimise exposure.
This course is fore anyone who is required to carryout or commission an asbestos survey on non-domestic premises under Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

This two day course provides refresher training for the surveying of buildings for asbestos and the management procedures necessary to mnimise exposure.
