Mechanical Building Services Engineers

Mechanical building services engineers work with other professionals at design stage of construction to create efficient and cost effective solutions for buildings. The areas a mechanical building services engineer may be called upon to assist with include heating and ventilation systems; air conditioning systems; steam systems; fire suppression measures; industrial or close control cooling systems; ground source heating/ cooling systems; and the mechanisms for the distribution and storage of natural gas and medical gases. High levels of skill and technical knowledge are required of the mechanical services that go to make up a building. Not only must they keep the occupants comfortable, they must also comply with rigorous building and health and safety regulations. More than that, there is an expectation that any such solutions will be designed with energy efficiency and environmental performance in mind. Mechanical building services engineers work in all major industries, particularly in manufacturing and construction, and in both the private and public sectors.
