Direct Metal Laser Sintering

Direct metal laser sintering (also known as DMLS) is a form of additive manufacturing. In DMLS a fibre laser is fired into powdered metal, to melt or weld the material to create a solid structure. The structure is created via the direction of a CAD programme, usually on a computer. Types of direct metal laser sintering machines include EOSINT M290, EOSINT M280, EOSINT M270 and DMC 835V. With DMLS, no special tooling is required and parts can be made in hours making it a value tool for the automotive, space and aircraft industry, as well as medical and dental.
