Boring

In manufacturing, boring is the process of enlarging a pre-existing hole that was already drilled or cast. This is done with a single-point cutting tool, and ensures a greater accuracy in determining the ideal hole diameter size. There are various types of boring, but they largely fall into two categories depending on whether the boring bar is supported at one end of two. If it is supported at one end then the boring equipment falls into the category of lineboring, if it is supporting at two ends and the process involves reaching through an existing hole then it is referred to as backboring. Many manufacturing industries use boring today including the military, aerospace, automotive, and artillery industry.
