Slush Moulding

Slush moulding (or slush casting) is used to produce hollow parts. In this process, metal casting can harden in a mould and solidify from the mould wall towards the inside of the casting. The process generally relies on gravity to fill the moulds. Common casting metals are aluminium, magnesium, copper, zinc, lead, iron and steel. Similar processes are permanent mould casting, which doesn’t just rely on gravity but also the addition of gas pressure or vacuum. In slush moulding, moulds are reusable or so-called ‘permanent’ moulds making it a good method for producing high volumes of identical items. Slush modelling is used to manufacture toys and parts that are ornamental in nature, such as lamp bases and statues.
