Urban Engineering

Urban engineering, sometimes referred to as municipal engineering, specifies, designs constructs and maintains the urban environment and all related to it, from maintaining streets and sidewalks to public parks; it deals with the urban infrastructure. Urban engineering should not be confused with urban design or planning as the designers or planners deal with the general design whereas the engineer deals with the detailed design. The urban engineer contains elements of other engineering professions and skills, such as environmental, water resources and transport. This is mainly due to the level of detail the urban engineer will be involved in when planning and designing the urban environment. This particular branch of engineering deals with waste water management and bus service networks. Many cities and towns will use the services of an urban engineer. These engineers are responsible for creating programs and plans relating to their town and city. The people want their habitats to be clean and free from pollution and unwanted rubbish left to decay. They can be confident with the urban engineer that they will produce policies that affect land use, public utilities and transportation. They can be sure that the engineer will assess the impact of new constructions within the environment and put forward recommendations to benefit the town/city.
