  6. Happy New Year 2018
    28 October 2019

    New Year - new staircase?

Our technical department is on hand for anyone thinking of using our Cast Metal Anti-slip Stair Nosings for their project whether you’re looking to specify or procure directly.

    Stair nosing selection will depend on several factors such as;

    • Anti-slip – AATi products achieve very high SRV (Slip Resistance Values) 40+ in both wet and dry conditions.
    • Adhering to regulations – Do you have to comply with local Building Regulations? AATi have numerous products that are tailored to meet the set guidelines in the aforementioned standards.
    • Technology – We use the latest technologies when designing new bespoke products and carrying out continuous improvements to existing products.
    • investment – AATi stair nosing products are cheaper when you consider whole of life costs, AATi products typically last 20+ years in high footfall locations such as the London Underground. It is often underestimated or ignored to include the costs of repeat repairs (materials and contractor costs), AATi stair nosings will outlast any other nosing on the market by far.

Other factors can include Functionality - are you looking to cover the entire going of each step or just the front edge or Aesthetics - what other finishes are adjacent to the nosing?

There are many options available so please contact us now for all stair nosing advice and recommendations!

  8. AATi new production facility!
    28 October 2019

Due to the continued successful growth of AATi and the increasing demand for our cast metal anti-slip stair nosings, we have invested in building a brand new factory.

The new factory will increase our production capacity and as technology has advanced throughout the years, the factory will be exhibiting some new machinery and consequently will escalate the production processes.

The new factory is situated on our existing site located at Braintree, Essex.

The new factory is almost complete with internal fit-out works currently underway, in a few months’ time it will be fully ‘kitted out’ with machinery and in full swing!

Stay tuned for further updates and please check out the below timeline of the construction process so far!

  9. Network Rail ‘Access for all’ at Canterbury West station
    28 October 2019

AATi are pleased to have now supplied stair nosings to WEC Group on three occasions within the ‘Access for All’ scheme, most recently on Canterbury West Network Rail station. AATi supplied full step-width aluminium stair nosings (SN293/WL/307UR) for a total of 58 steps to the specifications of WEC, steelwork manufacturers and installation contractors based in Darwen, Lancashire.

AATi worked closely with WEC to manufacture a bespoke version of our standard profile SN293/WL/280B to incorporate an underside radius to suit the bend in their steelwork along the back edge of the nosing and increased the nosing depth from 280mm o/all to 307mm, easily achievable with our in-house pattern workshop.

Two other new high spec AFA bridges have previously been built by WEC at Audley End and Forest Hill Stations using our SN293/WL/280B stair nosing and are all complete with two lifts for disabled access.

AATi stair nosings used and specified by Railtrack on the AFA bridges meet the DDA requirements with contrasting colour resin inserts built into the leading edge of the nosings they also help partially sighted people. Carbide granules cast into the nosings greatly reduces wear and also increases slip resistance. This also ensures a far longer life than lesser competitors’ products.

I recognise AATi nosings are a top quality product! WEC are proud to use only the best products. Excellent customer service and on time delivery, WEC will definitely be using again!

  10. Búðarháls’ Hydro Plant
    28 October 2019

A circular argument. Iceland needs inward investment because of the banking crisis. Rio Tinto agrees to help because Iceland has ‘free’ natural resources, sand and hydro power. The Chinese want the Aluminium, so they will help too by building a 80MW power plant to drive the power-hungry aluminium smelter. AATi Ltd will use some of that Aluminium to make antislip SN2 WL84 stair nosings for the plant’s steps. All the workers and curious international visitors will be safe even during the iciest visit.

Moral of the story; ‘many a slip ‘tween cup and lip’ i.e. take care, and have patience, and good things will come to all those who help out in a crisis. Well done Iceland and thanks for the order.

  11. Beautifully Engineered
    28 October 2019

Barlow commercially perfected the design of Brunel’s TBM so the cost of the first Northern line LUL tunnels could be commercially justified. This laid the blueprint for the London Tube as we know it. Recently, AATi Ltd (formerly Antislip Antiwear Treads International), Essex-based UK manufacturer of the well-known high performance stairway products, has done the same. Their product at the King’s Cross Northern ticket hall bears this out.

AATi’s traditional diamond pattern stair nosing product line behind the well engineered, ventilated stair design at Knightsbridge LUL Station (top) has been redesigned by the AATi team into the pleasing and hard-wearing DDA anti-slip designs adopted widely over the LUL Tube and ‘superstations’ throughout the national rail network.

Winning one of the prestigious Future of Station Design Awards recently, AATi feel that they have succeeded in re-inventing the art of the cast stairway for high and low footfall traffic alike. Recent additions to the high footfall range include aluminium ‘Coverall’ range (which speaks for itself) for Network Rail applications and a low-cost ‘Commercial’ application range for flats, shops, and commercial premises, including station back-of-house. All with the unique AATi cast seal of approval we are seeing this product in its new guise popping up all over the Network and UK public infrastructure. For stairnosing now think beautiful UK engineering, think whole-of-life value for money, and think longevity and well spent use of public funds. If you prefer a more practical comparison, run up and down some of the old stairways across the country then treat yourself to an AATi ‘magic stairway’.
