The History

Formed in April 2001 following the management buyout of the sash balance business from Garador Limited Balance UK Ltd are the only UK manufacturers of spiral sash balances continuing with pride the legacy of the Westland and Catnic Unique brands. Based at their 12.500 square foot factory in Martock, Somerset, Balance UK manufacture from core materials creating a range premium quality sash balances capable of taking sash weights up to 45.4kg. Manufactured to an exclusive pattern which has been tried and tested successfully for over half a century throughout the world.

The Products

All balances incorporate stainless steel spiral rods and range from lightweight ¿D-type¿ balances which can be adjusted by screwdriver to fully pre-tensioned balances providing maximum assisted lift. There is a choice of fixing arrangements and all balances carry a 10 year warranty. Balances are supplied in white as standard with black, grey or brown available on request at no extra charge.

The patented ¿Supertilt¿ slide and tilt timber system offers a premium alternative which has the following advantages over a standard vertical sliding system:

• Sashes can be tilted inwards for easy and safe cleaning, from inside the building
• Sashes are supported when tilted by means of a rigid stainless steel restrictor stay at an angle of approximately 45°
• Sashes can be tilted in any vertical position
• The system provides for high-performance, friction-free weathersealing of sashes
• Appearance is improved as the plastic slider forms a cover for the otherwise exposed spring of the balance.

Balance UK supplies a large range of hardware and accessories which includes plastic or brass guide catches, fitch fasteners, key-locking catches, sash lifts, pole eyes, restrictor stays, bars and channels etc.

The future

Future business plans include further additions to the product range to allow us to become a ¿one-stop shop¿ for more window systems. We will also continue to invest in machinery to allow us to increase productivity and efficiently cater for our customers¿ every need.
