Baldwin Boxall Communications Ltd.
Baldwin Boxall was formed by four Directors – Terry & Patricia Baldwin and Dave & Dawn Boxall – in 1982 in a shed at the bottom of Terry’s garden. Since then, the company has grown steadily and strongly and has remained an independent organisation.
The Directors – Terry Baldwin, Patricia Baldwin, Nick Baldwin, Dave Boxall, Neil Jarvis, Bob Schulz & Neil Williams – and staff – are all committed to retain the company’s reputation as one that cares.
With R&D, sales, projects, specials, assembly, test, quality, packing and despatch teams all based on the one site in Crowborough, we are able to work efficiently and effectively. We are a knowledgeable staff working together as one team.
Our products have been installed in many prestigious sites and worldwide. We also know, from telephone calls to our after-sales help desk, that some of our early systems are still in use today.
Core products include voice alarm systems (also known as voice evacuation systems, VACIE), public address systems, microphones and Emergency Voice Communication (or EVC) systems. EVC systems consists of: fire telephones, disabled refuge and roaming telephones. We are also a supplier of disabled toilet alarm and nurse call systems. Commissioning and maintenance services are also provided.

The VIGIL2 voice alarm system is well established and proven and are installed in many prestigious sites throughout the world. VIGIL2 voice alarm is fully BS EN 54-16 and BS EN 54-4 certified.
A voice alarm system (sometimes referred to as a voice evacuation system) is installed with the safety of staff and general public in mind. It is a system that assists in the effective evacuation of an area or building during a fire, bomb alert or other emergency. At all other times a voice alarm system is used to make public address announcements, broadcast advertisements or background music. Control of the VIGIL2 system can be any combination of the following (depending upon the specification and requirements of the system):
- Emergency fire microphones - housed in IP66 rated enclosure (BFM range).
- Unitouch touchscreen control and paging station.
- VA control microphone with LCD panel (BVRD range).
- Intelligent paging microphones (BDM400 range).
- Paging microphones (BDM300 range).
Each voice alarm system is bespoke and designed to suit the requirements and specification of the project.
An EVC (emergency voice communication) system allows firefighters and others to communicate with one another during emergency situations. The system also allows communication with disabled persons.
It is a “System that allows voice communication in either direction between a central control point and a number of other points throughout a building or building complex, particularly in a fire emergency situation.” (BS5839-9:2011 3.4). Read more about Emergency Voice Communication EVC Systems...
Baldwin Boxall has two types of EVC system:
- Omnicare Loop Wired System
- CARE2 Radial Wired System
Both systems are:
- A Disabled Refuge System
- A Fire Telephone System
- Disabled Toilet Alarm System
The OmniCare system also has an Advance Disabled Refuge Outstation (featuring raised luminescent text, Braille and integral induction loop.
The CARE2 system includes the option of roaming telephones with jack sockets.
The disabled toilet alarm kit for each system consists of three components - overdoor light, pull cord and reset button. This system is powered from the line and does not require any local power source.
An EVC system is fully monitored and battery backed. All Baldwin Boxall EVC systems come complete with the necessary batteries. Most items are optionally available with a stainless steel finish and can be surface or flush mounted (with bezel).
