Rotary Unions

Rotary unions are self-contained and self-supporting rotary seals used to transfer fluids such as steam, water, air or oil,to and from rotating machinery.

Standard units are of steel and iron construction with specials available in,for example, stainless steel and nickel alloys for chemically aggressive fluids or food quality applications.

The range of seven standard models from 1/4" to 6" BSP in three basic types for single or dual flow are available with a choice of ball bearings for temperatures up to +160C and with plain cylindrical carbon bearings for temperatures of + 100C to +300C. Pressure range is 740mm Hg vacuum to 140 bar and rotating speeds to 3000rpm. In many instances it is possible to exceed the maximum conditions, but before doing so our technical department must be consulted.

Filton undertake to design and manufacture rotary unions to meet customers specific requirements.

Swivel Joints

A swivel joint is primarily for use on oscillating shafts,, but is also suitable for transferring fluids to and from slowly rotating shafts.

Designs vary from the simple knuckle joints, without independent  bearings to models containing double row ball bearings for the heavier duties.

Available from 1/4" to 2" BSP with single or double flow facility for a pressure range of 740 Hg vacuum to 400 bar. Sealing is created by using simple elastomeric O Ring seals in the low duty models and PTFE seals in the heavy duty types.

When the working conditions are beyond the limitations of the standard swivel joints, Filton can design and manufacture swivel joints to meet customers requirements.
