Water Level Control and Flood Protection

Hunger cylinders are used in modern dams for the positioning and control of level and flood protection gates. Cylinders for radial gates, rotary gates, slide gates and flap gates are bespoke engineered to meet the requirements of the project specifications, according to DIN and ASME standards but also regional standards where necessary and any special customer requirements. Load holding, synchronization and safety functions are incorporated into hydraulic manifold blocks directly mounted onto the hydraulic cylinders. Hunger also engineer and supply these manifold blocks together with associated power packs, thereby providing complete customer system solutions for civil engineering projects. Ship Locks

Hydraulic drives located close to docks, rivers & canals water require high levels of reliability, corrosion protection and environmental compatibility. These requirements are fulfilled using modern piston rod coatings such as Hunger Ceraplate and Ultraplate coating, combined with special Hunger seal and guiding elements and environment friendly hydraulic fluids and by using Hunger stainless steel maintenance free spherical bearings.

Hydro Electric Power Stations

Hunger cylinders are employed in many hydroelectric power plants worldwide for the operation of turbine intake gates to control turbine speed. The cylinders must provide a reliable load holding function and must be capable of controlled interruption of the water flow at a high speed to prevent turbine breakdown.

Hydraulic Hoists/Jack-up Platforms

The Hunger portfolio includes hydraulic cylinders for scissor lifting systems, special hoisting and heavy lift platforms, used for example to raise and lower trucks for loading & offloading purposes.

Hydraulic Cylinders for Surface and Underground Mining

Hydraulic cylinders are used for surface and underground mining in the production of lignite, coal, gravel, sand and other minerals.

Hunger cylinders are used at the surface in material conveyancing systems, for example bucket wheel stacker/reclaimers.

Rotary breaker machines are used for breaking up large rocks both on the surface and underground. To avoid damage through over stressing, special Hunger damper cylinders are used to guarantee maximum reliability under extremely dirty operating conditions and high dynamic loads.

Hydraulic Press Cylinders

HUNGER hydraulic cylinders are used in forging, forming and bending presses where enormous forces of up to 10.000 t per hydraulic cylinder are required.

During the forming process hydraulic cylinders can be subjected to enormous dynamic pressure surges which can only be controlled by precise design calculations, sophisticated cylinder designs and accurate manufacturing.

Hunger supply special 12 m long cylinders with integrated oil feeds and damping systems used in special cold forming presses producing aluminium plates for aircraft construction at peak pressures up to 600 bar.

In vehicle bodywork panel production, Hunger cylinders are used in hydroforming presses where hydraulic compression forces replace the lower die. This modern forming technology places special demands on the field of high-pressure hydraulics and requires large cylinders for the clamping forces needed during the forming process.

Rolling Mill Hydraulic Cylinders

Hydraulic equipment is used in steelworks due to the high density of forces and its robustness. Roller adjusting cylinders for example can have piston diameters of more than 1 metre, whereby in addition to the high forces control accuracy of few hundredths of milimetres are required.

Ladle Turret Cylinders

Steel mills use ladle turret cylinders for the handling of the molten steel. Beside the high reliability and safety requirements, these cylinders have to withstand the high environmental temperatures. Since many years hydraulic cylinders prove their worth and have been produced in various scales and different types, with joint bearing, with ball joint and with con rod. The seal and bearing elements of the Hunger DFE GmbH are coordinated with the operational conditions in steel mills.

Hydraulic Valves

HUNGER special safety and load control valves for hydraulic cylinders are available in manifold or cartridge design for mounting directly to Hunger cylinders.

Ice Wipers / Scrapers

HUNGER Ice Wipers are used where standard elastomers wipers are not effective or wear too quickly as a result of contaminants adhered to the piston rod.

The wipers comprise a bronze outer housing, with an integral primary scraping edge, and an internal elastomer ring with a secondary wiping lip. The brass scraper removes any stubborn dirt from the rod, leaving the secondary elastomer wiper to remove smaller loose particles of dust, water, etc.
