What Are Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are good news all round, for learners and employers, to play their part in society and in growing the economy.  Apprentices work alongside experienced staff to develop both the practical and personal skills employers really need to run a successful business.  Each nationally recognised qualification is designed by employers, for employers and delivered by ITEC staff in the workplace with total commitment to flexibility and minimal disruption.  Apprentices are able to learn, achieve and contribute from day one whilst employers can reap the rewards of a motivated, confident, productive workforce.

Going forward the new names for the different levels of Apprenticeship will be as follows -
  • Intermediate Level Apprenticeship (Level 2)
  • Advanced Level Apprenticeship (Level 3)
  • Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4)

Recruitment and Vacancies

Our team of Business Development Consultants are in contact and working closely with a number of local employers who have a variety of vacancies to fill or enquiries relating to training opportunities for their existing staff, all of which is very encouraging.

Each vacancy offers the necessary mix and range of duties to complete a work-based learning Apprenticeship at Level 2, 3, or 4.  All vacancies are listed on ITEC's website, or can be viewed on the National Apprenticeship website, with a brief description and applications are welcome either by completing our online application form or by contacting the relevant ITEC training centre closest to you for more details and to request an application form be posted out to you.

Local employers notify our Business Development Consultants of vacancies suitable for staff who are embarking upon vocational qualifications or to enrol their existing staff on appropriate NVQ's to gain job specific recognition for their day-to-day responsibilities and enhance their career development.

Courses

Advice and Guidance - (non-funded)

An NVQ in Advice and Guidance is suitable for anyone working in an organisation offering advice and guidance - for example, advice centres or training establishments, as customer service advisors, in the youth justice service, help desk advisors, careers advisors or an IAG partnership.  There are options to suit any level, from those working in an administrative role to those with more experience, working as advisors and dealing directly with clients.

Business and Administration - (available as funded and non-funded)

An NVQ in Business and Administration offers flexibility which can be transferred across a wide range of industry sectors and as individuals gain wider experience, their potential to progress into managerial positions increases.  You don't need any previous experience, but you do need to be working in an environment where you can prove your skills.

Customer Service - (available as funded and non-funded)

It's estimated there will be 113,000 new jobs in customer service in England between 2004 and 2014.  High levels of customer service skills will be required across all sectors such as - retail, financial services, contact centres, hospitality, sport and recreation, health and social care, telecommunications, travel and tourism, and many more besides.  This qualification will ensure an improved customer service delivery and increased customer satisfaction leading to confident communication skills, relationship building, resolving problems, promoting products and services, keeping records, gathering customer feedback and working in a team.

IT Users

IT User Skills are required for over 72% of job roles, with over 90% of new posts specifically requiring IT user skills.  IT systems, communication, productivity tools, increased security and data protection are all key drivers for up-skilling the workforce.  Job roles requiring IT User skills include - personal assistant, office support, application helpdesk support, website design or technician, publishing or multimedia assistant, sales and marketing executive, teaching assistant or school administrator.  Progression will require an in-depth knowledge and competence in the use of particular systems and software as well as wide-ranging tranferable skills and the ability to develop and test solutions to improve workplace productivity through the use of IT.

IT & Telecoms (available as funded and non-funded)

It is anticipated there will be sustained need for new entrants or re-skilled IT & Telecoms employess with potential career opportunities in - Software & Web Development, Technical Support, Telecommunications and IT Project Management.  These roles suit individuals with an interest in design and creativity, with good attention to detail.  Those with a mathematical or analytical mind, good logical reasoning and problem solving skills.  With an interest in both hardware and software and a broad knowledge of technology.   With excellent interpersonal skills, able to work to deadlines - sometimes under pressure. 

 

Sales (available as funded and non-funded)

Sales roles offer an exciting and challenging working environment where both existing staff and new talent can gain the skills to make businesses more productive, efficient and profitable.  Tasks to be carried out may include - selling face-to-face or by telephone, processing sales orders, supporting customers in obtaining finance for purchases, generating and qualifying sales leads, meeting after sales needs, making presentations with potential to progress onto negotiating and closing sales, pricing for sales promotions, assessing credit status of customers and retaining sales relationships.

Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (available as funded and non-funded)

Appropriately trained and deployed staff, supporting teaching and learning in schools, play a crucial role in supporting pupils, parents and colleagues.  As skills, experience and knowledge increase these qualifications provide training for roles including - teaching, classroom and learning support assistant, special needs assistant, behaviour support assistant/coordinator, pastoral/welfare assistant, foundation stage assistant and team leader.  Initially candidates are closely supervised by class teachers who develop lesson plans and day-to-day direction.  Progression to advanced levels, working under the direction of a teacher with overall responsibility, allows for a varied range of responsibilities and duties including planning, implementing and evaluating learning activities and working alongside the teacher to support whole class activities.
