Incorporated in 2003, Micropower Products Limited was formed to develop a range of small, battery powered consumer products as a private venture and to carry on the business activities of Sonic Engineering.

Established in 1989, Sonic Engineering is an electronics design consultancy offering a wide variety of expertise based on more than 30 years of experience in a wide range of professional electronic engineering environments. In addition, several standard products are offered including a range of darkroom safety lighting products. The Personnel Identification Device is such a product which has been supplied to the photographic film manufacturing industry for many years.

Sonic Engineering came into being as a result of the successful design-for-manufacture of a range of hand held ultrasonic distance measuring instruments for US start-up company, Sonin Incorporated. The highly innovative electronics design incorporates a range of sophisticated signal processing techniques implemented in a mixed signal custom ASIC closely integrated with a single chip microcontroller providing unsurpassed accuracy and a wealth of computational features.
