Static Control is a mechanism, adopting purpose designed control systems using explosion protection and intrinsically safe techniques, to safely monitor acceptable resistance values to Earth (Ground) within potentially explosive atmospheres.

Static Earthing

Static Earthing (or Static Grounding) is the process of electrically bonding one or more conductive objects to Earth or Ground. This ensures that no potentially incendive electrostatic charge can build up on the object or objects.

EARTH-RITE® RTR

The Earth-Rite RTR is the most advanced system for protecting personnel and plant assets from static hazards during road tanker loading and offloading operations. The system utilises innovative Tri-Mode Technology to ensure  1) positive connection to a road tanker, 2) connection to a verifiable static dissipative ground and 3)   a continuously monitored tanker-ground connection of less than 10 ohms. When these parameters are confirmed, the RTR permits the transfer of product and any static generated on the road tanker by the transfer process is immediately transferred to ground. The RTR operates with a Universal Grounding Clamp and it does not require any special equipment to be installed on the Road Tanker Trucks.  It may be used with all common types of Bulk Tankers without special modifications.

EARTH-RITE® PLUS

The Earth-Rite PLUS is an extremely versatile system that may be used to monitor static ground conditions on a wide range of plant equipment, including Mobile Tanks, Railcars, IBC’s, Drums and Containers. The PLUS operates a single mode monitoring system that continuously monitors the clamp-ground connection ensuring resistance in the circuit does not rise above 10 ohms.

EARTH-RITE® TELLUS

The Earth-Rite TELLUS monitors static ground connections for a wide range of filling, blending and mixing applications. The flexible and lightweight indicator station is easy to install, and can be mounted in a variety of locations within the hazardous area, with the power supply mounted in the local ‘non-hazardous’ area. If the TELLUS detects an abnormally high resistance in the static dissipation circuit it activates a set of output contacts to halt the process or feed out to control or alarm systems.

EARTH-RITE® MULTIPOINT

For specialized plant and equipment situated in combustible or flammable atmospheres, with several potentially isolated conductive components (such as dryers, filling and conveying systems), the Earth-Rite MULTIPOINT provides static ground monitoring of up to 8 points with operator feedback and interlock capability. For complex or large-scale applications, multiple systems may be grouped together to monitor more than 8 points.

EARTH-RITE® FIBC

The Earth-Rite FIBC system verifies the resistance and safe grounding of Type C “Big-Bags” or “Super-Sacks” in combustible or flammable atmospheres. The system ensures that resistance of the flexible container is within the correct parameters as specified by International Hazardous Area Static Control Codes of Practice, and may interlock with filling/discharge machinery or control/alarm systems to prevent dangerous levels of accumulation of static electricity on the container and the powder/loose solids contained within.

EARTH-RITE® OMEGA

The Earth-Rite OMEGA is an extremely flexible DIN rail mounted Intrinsically Safe module which may be used in two different ways; first, as a discrete static ground monitoring component in a larger plant instrumentation and control system; second, as part of a dedicated static ground indicator and interlock system for monitoring and controlling in applications as diverse as flammable liquid storage tanks and drum storage racks.

VESM02 - Self-Retracting Cable Reel

The VESM02 static grounding reel provides a suitable alternative to spiral cable for use with the Earth-Rite range of static grounding systems, especially for areas where self-retracting cable reels are a standard requirement.

The reel can be used in conjunction with systems that are used to ground road tanker trucks, railcars and other items of plant requiring static grounding protection.

The reel is ATEX certified for installation in Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas and connection to all certified Earth-Rite Intrinsically Safe monitoring systems. The reel is supplied with 15 metres (50 ft.) of Newson Gale’s 2 conductor static dissipative cable.

The main body of the reel is made of powder coated steel and the weight of the reel, including clamp and cable, is 11.5 kg (25 lbs)Universal system of interchangeable clamps and cables for the Earth-Rite and Bond-Rite range.

BOND-RITE® CLAMP

The Bond-Rite CLAMP, patented exclusively by Newson Gale, is the only static grounding clamp, which provides operators with visual verification that potentially charged equipment is connected to a verified static grounding point. The clamp contains a bright green LED which flashes continuously when the clamp detects the grounding circuit has a resistance of 10 ohms or less, informing

the operator that hazardous electrostatic charges do not have the potential to accumulate on the equipment. The battery provides up to 6 months of power for equipment grounded for up to an average of 6 hours per day.

BOND -RITE® REMOTE

For processes where a wall mounted indicator is preferred two enclosure options are available. The standard GRP enclosure is suitable for general processing environments, whereas the stainless steel enclosure caters for corrosive or hygienic environments. The battery provides up to 6 months of power for equipment grounded for up to an average of 6 hours per day.

BOND -RITE® REMOTE (EP)

For process applications that require grounding for more than 6 hours per day, the Bond-Rite REMOTE EP utilises 230V or 110V mains supply to power the monitoring circuit of each indicator station. The IS current is provided by the power supply which is located in the ‘non-hazardous’ area with indicator stations mounted in the zoned (classified) area.  See power supply option details below.

BOND -RITE® EZ

The Bond-Rite EZ is a unique portable unit that bonds equipment engaged in liquid or powder transfers conducted in locations where installed grounding & bonding equipment is not provided. The EZ comprises a Bond-Rite CLAMP with a flashing LED located

in the clamp housing combined with the option of a heavy-duty or medium duty 2 pole clamp, plus a flexible range of cable length options to complete the assembly.

CEN-STAT X45 & X90 CLAMPS

The Cen-Stat X45 and X90 are general purpose static earthing clamp certified to ATEX and FM guidelines for safe use within hazardous areas. 

The clamps are made from corrosion resistant stainless steel (304) and contain two hard wearing tungsten carbide tips that bite through rust, paint and product deposits. It is designed specially for use on large containers, drums and IBCs. 

  • ATEX / FM approved static earthing clamp.

CEN-STAT Static Discharge Reels

Cen-Stat static discharge reels provide personnel with a convenient means of stowing static earthing clamps and cable when not in use. The cable reels can be supplied in 20 ft, 30 ft and 50 ft lengths. 

The galvanised cable is covered with a layer of high visibility Hytrel coating protecting it from chemical attack.

CEN-STAT Hytrel Cable

Cen-Stat clamps are supplied as standard with straight or retractable spiral cable in lengths of 5mtr (16ft), 10mtr (32ft) and 15mtr (50ft) and straight lengths of up to 500mtr (1640ft). 

The hi-visibility Hytrel® coating is IEC 60446 compliant and protects the 4mm diameter multi-stranded galvanised steel conductor from chemical and environmental degradation.

Hazardous Area Certified Multimeter

The Intrinsically Safe certified Multimeter provides engineers and technicians with a safe means of reading and recording a wide range of electrical data within hazardous areas.

The meter is particularly useful with Newson Gale’s range of earthing clamps to measure the resistance of their connections between equipment at risk of static charge accumulation and site approved earthing points.

Regular resistance readings ensure the clamps are penetrating layers of coatings, rust or product deposits, that may otherwise inhibit the safe transfer of static charges to earth.

Sole-Mate Testing Equipment

The Sole-Mate is designed to test personnel footwear resistance before entering a hazardous area. 

The tester measures the resistance of the footwear to ensure static is capable of dissipating from personnel through their shoes to ground. The tester confirms footwear is compliant with CLC/TR 50404 & ASTM F2413-05 (Type I).
