Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB Power)
- YEAR FOUNDED
Today’s energy industry is under increasing pressure to cut costs, boost investment returns, maximise output, cut greenhouse emissions and ensure sustainability. To help you overcome these issues demands a special capability.
That is why governments, energy producers and investors worldwide have continued to turn to Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) for over a century - including developing the modern thermal power station, establishing the UK national grid and advising on the world’s first power industry privatisation. We have the blend of technical and business skills to accomplish any power-related assignment - whether providing strategic advice, engineering consultancy, or project management.
Relationships. Acting as owner’s/lender’s engineer, partner, or part of the client team, we have an eye to protecting your interests and realising your goals. Many clients have chosen to work with PB repeatedly over decades. They include banks and investors, developers, national/local government, public utilities, system operators, industry regulators and private companies and contractors.
Generation. With PB you benefit from a unique combination of know-how and technology gained from engineering more than 130,000 MW of power plants at over 400 sites in the last 30 years alone. The spectrum of systems and fuels covers CCGT and cogeneration plus clean coal, oil, waste, biomass, biofuels, hydroelectric, geothermal and wind generation; we also offer services related to the nuclear industry. Our track record includes some of the world’s largest power and water projects including Shuweihat (1,500 MW CCGT, 100 migd) in Abu Dhabi which incorporates our own patented technology to enhance the economy and performance of power and desalination projects.
Renewables. Today the question for developers, lenders and governments is no longer whether to go for renewables, but who can best advise on, design, and implement solutions. PB can guide you through this changing scene to arrive at a confident and informed decision which we can carry forward into successful production. Our experience spans hydropower, energy from waste, geothermal, wind and more. Landmarks include Kariba, Africa’s largest hydro plant when commissioned; the world’s largest straw-burning plant in the UK; and, in NZ, the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest wind farm.
Transmission and distribution. You can depend on our wide-ranging skills base to provide both strategic advice and complete project solutions from concept to commissioning. Whatever your challenge, we have the experience to meet it successfully. In engineering over 30,000 km of transmission lines in the last 30 years, we have spanned the world’s widest river crossing in Bangladesh and reached record transmission tower heights beside China’s Yangtze River. At the micro end of the scale we are advising governments on removing the practical and structural barriers to distributed generation.
Optimising energy and utility systems. The pressures of globalisation, competition and deregulation combined with increasing environmental awareness and demand for sustainable solutions make it vital to set a strategic direction that optimises utility systems. We can assist you on issues as diverse as industry and regulatory reform; restructuring; energy and environmental economics; project development, planning, design and management; and valuations and mergers and acquisitions.
