This is the Access safety fencing product that Sponmech has successfully supplied to UK Warehouse's and factories over the last 10 years. Now our new Sister company Accessafe is the UK stockist of the same product.

Accessafe is headed up by former Troax Area Sales Manager Steven Morrow. Steven has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the warehousing, mesh guarding and property protection market.

In March 2023 Sponmech were asked to CNC punch, fold, Tig weld and powder coat (on an urgent basis) LEGOLAND parts. These parts are the 3mm thick Aluminium sections that form the distinctive Lego-look cladding on the Legoland Hotel. This followed a fire that took place some months ago, but now it’s back to looking its vibrant best thanks to our skilled fabricators and excellent powder coating team.

Access makes its 3D library available to customers through its site on traceparts.com. Customers can have access to all Access products: panels, posts and accessories and they can  download  the  3D  files  in  their  preferred  designing  format  (compatible  formats:  Autodesk,  Solid works,  Catia etc.). For more complex assemblies such as doors, Access has studied and developed a graphic configurator which will guide customers in the choice of the required model, generation of the 3D file and the commercial code needed for product design and purchase.

Earlier this year Sponmech were challenged by Esprit Automation to produce a set of guards that were able to meet all of their critical quality requirements. We are pleased to say, we did it!

Sponmech is now proud to demonstrate the quality of its machinery safety guarding with this latest laser cutting enclosure built by us to the customer's own designs. 

Sponmech have special sheetmetal craftsmen, modern CNC machinery and are pleased to have built this first example. Alcumus SafeContractor is a leading third party accreditation scheme which recognises extremely rigorous standards in health and safety management amongst contractors. It is used by thousands of organisations in the UK including SMEs and FTSE 100 companies.

Employing 25 people, Sponmech is principally involved in the manufacturing sector, specialising in the supply of machinery guarding to the robotics and logistics industries, with a £1.5 million turnover. Machinery guarding specialists Sponmech Safety Systems Ltd have installed ‘Access Budget Safety Fencing’ into 3 major UK distribution warehouses and manufacturing plants in the last year alone.

The manufacturing industry is seeing an ever growing increase in safety risk assessments carried out which require humans to be kept separate from manufacturing processes. In addition, the increasing use of robotic labour instead of human labour in manufacturing production is subject to strict laws and safety legislation; each of these robotic systems needs to be guarded.

What's the solution? 

Perimeter safety fencing is used to separate restricted or ‘unsafe’ areas from access-allowed or ‘safe areas’.

The ‘Access Budget’ range is a modular safety fencing system which is highly recommended for safety in logistics projects and warehouse partitioning. 

Three of Sponmech’s biggest clients who invested in this product in the last 12 months are Nestlé, Jaguar Cars (through DURR Ltd) and Toyota.

Crash Tests 

Typically, guards carry out two main functions; they prevent people from accessing the danger area and containment i.e. they prevent emission of machinery parts or liquid spillage, fumes etc, from within the protected area. In order to validate the design and construction of guards in line with the ISO 14120 standard and their application in situations in which there is a need to prevent access from outside the danger area and/or contain ejections from within the danger area, impact load tests need to be carried out. 

Impact crash tests for Access Budget Safety Fencing Systems have shown that a 90KG weight can be smashed against the front and inside of the guarding to ensure that the fencing can withstand the impact forces (which it can) and this is in compliance with ISO 14120. Not all competitor products in the UK can achieve this standard so it is vital that you check with your supplier beforehand.

Access guards are fitted with 14120 captive screw kits which have passed all tests and can resist to impacts both from the outside and the inside of the danger area up to 2500 Joules.

In 2015 Sponmech won a huge contract with Nestlé UK for the safety improvements to their logistic warehouse in York. The project was a combination of guarding made up of 50% Access Budget Safety Fencing. Nestlé specifically noted a demand for Sponmech’s top quality, high strength perimeter guarding for the other 50%, which was used in heavy trafficked areas.
