Heat Pumps are renewable energy systems which access heat in the ground or from the air which is magnified for use within your home or business. By using renewable energy instead of traditional forms of fuel such as gas or oil for example, heat pumps are able to run more efficiently and at reduced cost saving you money while providing a complete heating and hot water solution.

Ground source heat pumps are slightly more efficient than air source heat pumps but require a large amount of space in order to collect the heat stored beneath the earth. Pipes known as a ground loop are buried 1 metre below your garden and filled with a water and antifreeze mix which is heated by the surrounding earth. This mix is pumped through the pipes and into the heat pump usually housed inside the property or a garage, where it is magnified to provide the requisite heat.

An alternative option to a ground loop in trenches is to drill boreholes though this is generally more expensive.

Air source heat pumps do not require a ground loop and are situated outside of your property where air is collected from which the heat is extracted and used in the same way as the heat extracted by ground source heat pumps. Air source heat pumps are easier to install and require minimal space so can be easily retrofitted into older properties as well as new ones.
