CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme

What is it?
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme has recently been introduced by the government as part of it’s commitment to reduce UK greenhouse gas emissions with the commercial sector. The scheme is slowly being introduced throughout the UK; it is administered by the environment agency.

Aims
The scheme aims to encourage energy efficiency and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Participation in the scheme is usually mandatory for most UK private and public companies from Banks to Hotels and Restaurants.

Who is it for?
This is based on the amount of electricity you use per annum as an organisation. In 2008 it was mandatory for organisations with at least one half-hourly meter to participate in the scheme. It is now a requirement for any organisation in the UK who is using more than 6,000MWh per year of electricity.

What does it mean for your organisation?
By improving your energy efficiency you will save money and improve your companies reputation. The incentive for commercial customers is that if you reduce your carbon emissions each year, you will also reduce the amount of emissions allowances you need to buy, therefore saving you money and increasing your image as a organisation by contributing to the greenhouse gas problem.
