TEi are able to undertake a range of mechanical testing including:
- TENSILE TESTING
Ambient, elevated and sub-zero temperature tensile testing to European (BSEN) and American (ASTM) specifications. Testing can include Yield & Ultimate Strength, Elongation, Reduction of area & Proof testing. All testing is carried out using a 500kN Servo-hydraulic MAYES machine linked to an INSTRON controller.
- CHARPY IMPACT TESTS
Dedicated European and American test machines for cryogenic, ambient and elevated temperature Charpy impact tests.
- HARDNESS TESTING:
We have a number of hardness testing machines to evaluate Rockwell, Vickers and Vickers micro hardness of parent and weld materials. We offer weld survey to BS EN 1043-1.
- COMPRESSION AND BEND TESTS:
We provide testing to establish Flexibility, Formality and Fracture properties.
Using optical microscopes and stereoscopes micro and macroscopic examination of materials up to x1000 magnification is available. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with magnification up to 200,000 x and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy are also available for analysis of fracture and microscopic features.
We offer characterisation of:

- Degradation of microstructure from elevated temperature service and exposure to corrosive environments.
- Grain size and morphology
- Phase balance
- Defect evaluation
- Thermal treatment evaluation.

We offer chemical composition analysis of all steel alloys and many other metal alloys using Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES).
We offer gas in metal analysis utilising Thermoconduction and Infra-red techniques.
In situ chemical analysis can be carried out using positive Material Identification (PMI) with XRF.
Analysis of debris, corrosion scales and other objects not suitable for the above techniques can be accommodated using our in house SEM and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) Spectroscopy suit.
MUFFLE FURNACES are available for heat treatment of test specimens and establishing simulated high temperature service effects on microstructure and physical properties.
We can assist with the optimisation of product heat treatment parameters and determination of hardenability.

Supplementary to the NDT techniques TEi Metallurgical Services specialises in:
- Alloy verification by positive material identification
- Portable hardness testing using Equotip or Krautkramer MIC10 equipment
- In-situ metallographic examinations and replication of microstructures (Thermal degradation and creep cavitation assessments)
