Fuel Dispensing Equipment

TransFlo Instruments offer a range of solutions for your Fuel Dispensing needs.  We compliment our range with a number of equipment finishes that will let our fuel management and dispensing systems fit seamlessly into your operational environment.  For exposed areas, why not opt for one of our rugged systems, designed to withstand the rigours of extensive use within adverse climatic conditions.  TransFlo Instruments have deployed this range of equipment into the South Atlantic region where harsh weather conditions have fully tested its durability and robust build.

How we receive our fuel is something most of us take for granted but has in fact become logistically very efficient. This is because fuel is expensive and to efficiently deliver every last drop to maximise profitability is a priority.

Fuel Pumps

TransFlo are also able to meet all your dispensing needs, with a range of stand-alone or fully integrated pumps that include the very latest in fuel management and dispensing equipment.

The fuel pump was invented in the late nineteenth century and so predates the invention of the motor car. This should not be too surprising as our Victorian forebears did use fuel for other things. The original use of a fuel pump was for dispensing fuel for use in kerosene lamps and stoves. This was of course before the days of widespread use of electricity, indeed, before the development of the national grid, and even before the development of the gas network. Fuel had to be physically delivered to homes and the workplace.

Needless to say, handling fuel can be a dangerous activity, especially if member of the public are expected to use the pump themselves and so safety measures were added, not least of which was the introduction of a hose which greatly aided the accuracy and efficiency of actually dispensing fuel into a container, and later into cars.

Early in their development the fuel pump was known as a bowser, but the name faded out of use and simply became known as a fuel pump, or just pump. The name did persist in Australia and New Zealand where even today the fuel pumps is known as a bowser.

The modern fuel pump does not just do one thing or just pump one type of fuel. A feature of the modern fuel pump is that it has a number of hoses to dispense different types of fuel, and the addition of a pay-at-the-pump facility.

Fuel Storage Tanks

If you are looking for a more complete solution, TransFlo are able to supply entire refueling solutions, including Fuel Storage Tanks, Pumps and Fuel Monitoring Systems.  Essentially we are a one-stop shop for your refueling operations.

Fuel tanks can be any safe container for flammable liquids. It is important that it is a safe container as containing fuel in a confined space can be a very dangerous thing.

More specifically, fuel tanks refer to a part of an engine system that stores fuel and propels or releases it into the engine. As such fuel tanks are a part of an integrated into a larger system and are not merely passive containers of fuel. They are an active component of the system.

Fuel tanks have several specific qualities. As a storage facility it must avoid any leakage and limit evaporation. This is not just to avoid wasting money but also a safety feature. Have fuel, a flammable substance, leaking out of its container is very dangerous. Even fumes from evaporation can ignite and are an even bigger hazard than leaks. With this being the case, it is as important that fuel tanks can be filled in a secure was without the possibility of sparks being created. It only takes one spark to cause the content of fuel tanks to ignite and cause an explosion.

On a practical level, fuel tanks must have a method of determining the level of fuel in the tank. With fuel tanks in an engine system it is not always possible, it is probably never possible, to actually look inside the tank to see for oneself how much fuel is in there. A system of measurement needs to be in place.

While it is important that fuel tanks must not allow evaporation, it is also important that vapour must not be allowed to collect within the fuel tank. A build up of vapour is dangerous and could lead to an explosion, so fuel tanks must have a system of venting vapour safely.
