United Wire Ltd
With origins back to the year 1825, United Wire has almost one hundred and eighty years of experience in the manufacture and supply of wire, wirecloth and related products. In recent years it has combined this wealth of experience with the substantial resources available to it through its Parent and Associated companies truly operating in a global market.
Today, the company is the largest manufacturer and distributor of wirecloth products in the UK.
In addition to offering a comprehensive range of standard wirecloth specifications, we combine our wealth of manufacturing experience with a fleet of modern, computer-controlled weaving looms enhancing our reputation as a specialist producer of technically demanding wirecloth products for use in high-integrity applications.
High Spec Wire Products Include:
- Stainless Steel
Our considerable experience in the matching of wirecloth to user applications is at your disposal and, through technical dialogue between us, it is possible to ensure that the best solution is achieved without compromising the end result desired.
Nevertheless, it can be useful to have a reasonable understanding of the subject of wirecloth specification(s). Consequently, this section provides information that both the novice and experienced purchaser should find useful either for general information or as a reference guide.
The details here by no means cover all of the wirecloth supplied by United Wire as we hold 500 specifications and over 2,000 rolls in stock on a day to day basis.
Where we do not carry stock, we are able to source stock from a variety of locations available to us and, of course, we have our own fleet of looms to manufacture to order .
Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDSs) for different wirecloth specifications are available by clicking this link

- Glossary of Terms
Each provides a number of attributes which make them best suited to certain applications and, of course, less well suited to others. Before reviewing each type, take two minutes to remind yourself of the definitions used in describing wirecloth attributes by visiting our Glossary of Terms.
A variety of alloys can be used to produce the various wirecloth specifications and some of their physical and chemical properties are tabulated for information.
The M-I Swaco group of companies acquired the Sweco business in late 1999. Sweco is the world leader in particle-separation and size reduction solutions. Headquartered in Florence, Ky., USA, Sweco maintains manufacturing facilities in Macon, Ga., Tulsa, Ok., Belgium and Singapore, a joint-venture in Mexico, and licensees in Australia and South Africa. In addition, Sweco has over 100 service offices surrounding the globe including one in Stoke on Trent in the UK.
With continuing commitment to improving customer service and reducing lead times, Sweco has added to its extensive global reach by taking the opportunity to establish a distribution and manufacturing centre at United Wire in Edinburgh to service the UK and Eire markets direct.
The Stoke on Trent office and Edinburgh manufacturing facility now work hand in hand to ensure that UK and Eire customers receive a superior service by eliminating any potential for variability of supply from international locations.
In addition, the established manufacturing systems at United Wire, including both ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems, ensure that product quality delivered to the customer are at the highest level.
