  1. When is noise an issue with steam vents?
    4 May 2021

Industrial facilities need to consider how noisy the operations are. They have an obligation to address the noise if it is harmful to people on and around the site. To do it they may require specialist silencers. This could include a steam vent silencer, especially if they are ever venting high pressure steam to the atmosphere.

One thing to keep in mind is that every facility is unique. As a result the strategy to tackle the noise needs to be too. There may be some very specific instances where it is very noisy. This can include:

    When using safety relief valves

Many systems have these valves in case the pressure builds up too much. If it happens the valve can open to release some of the steam and bring the pressure down. However, doing this can create a huge amount of noise. That is why it may be necessary to use a silencer.

    Boiler start up

Steam boilers are very popular in industrial facilities and many large buildings. They are the most effective choice here because steam can move easier through pipes than water. But, it may be necessary to dump steam every time the boiler starts. This can be noisy and may mean you need a silencer.

    System maintenance

Regular maintenance is vital on steam systems to reduce the risk of leaks and other issues. However, before it can happen the lines must be de-pressurised to make them safe to work on. This will mean that venting is necessary. Once again that can cause a lot of noise and you may need a steam vent silencer.

    Steam ejectors

Some systems require a steam ejector to extract air and non-condensing gases. The problem is that when they do that they need to eject or exhaust them. Yet again this can be noisy and silencers may be needed.

Talk to us if you need a steam vent silencer

At Ventx we know how problematic discharging steam can be. Luckily, we can design solutions for clients in many different industries. Our goal is to offer the most reliable silencers, whether we are providing them for steam vents, relief valves, or any other part of a system.

  2. Controlling the path of noise
    6 April 2021

Noise control is essential in industrial settings as it can prevent a host of issues. To us, the most efficient way of controlling it is the silencer. Our team specialises in designing and then producing an array of models. They work with all kinds of machinery, and are your ticket to a safer and more productive facility or site.

There are many good reasons to keep sounds to a minimum in a working environment. If it gets too noisy, the sounds become both an annoyance and a danger. In order to make sure everything is safe, you need to keep the noise under control. There are several steps in this process. One of the most important would be path control.

    What is the path?

Noise gets transmitted by sound waves. This happens through the space between the receiver and the source. The space is known as the path.

You can change the path of the transmission to limit the degree of acoustical energy that shall make its way to the receiver. Such an action is quite an efficient method of industrial noise control. Normally, this consists of using materials to obstruct the direct and reflected paths so it tackles the two ways that sound can travel.

How to tackle the direct path?

You can interrupt the direct paths by utilising acoustical barrier walls or enclosures between the receiver and surface. The barriers here are at their most efficient when you use them in tandem with objects meant to treat sound reflection.

What to do about the reflected path?

It is possible to reduce reflected noise paths by introducing panels that absorb sound. You can use them on walls to improve the acoustics of a space. It is also possible to install materials like this in ducts if the noise is reflecting through them.

    Silencers

You can also use silencers to address issues with both the direct and reflected paths. There are models to suit all kinds of needs, including options fit for noisy machinery, HVAC systems, vents, fans, and more.

    Ask us about noise control

At Ventx, we design industrial silencers to give clients a full range of models to choose from. They include air compressor, generator, and fan silencers. Each one is an effective solution for noise control. Furthermore, we design them to suit the specific application, making every product bespoke.

So, if you are interested in finding out more about our noise control products, feel free to contact us. You can ask us about how we design silencers, what materials we use, or even get examples of how well our silencers work.

  3. The significance of source control
    6 April 2021

Due to the ways in which noise can impact people and the environment, we must find ways of reducing it in industrial settings. Our solution is to supply top calibre silencers. We can offer a full array of models, including diffuser silencer designs as well as many others. These products are excellent because we design each one to ensure it fits perfectly with your system.

In any work setting, there are all sorts of reasons to keep sound levels to a minimum. For example, the noises can distract people and produce an unsafe environment. When there are distractions it can also have a big impact on productivity. Hearing loss is another potential problem that employers need to think about. Should any of these negative conditions exist, it becomes essential to eliminate, reduce, contain, or control the noise.

Look at the source of the noise

Source control is one of the most important steps in noise reduction. All noises originate from somewhere, whether it is noisy machinery, a HVAC system, or something else. It can be really useful to address the problem at the sources rather than later down the line.

If you have projects in the design phase, you should attempt to specify the quietest operating gear from the outset. This might not fully get rid of the potential for noise. However, your control endeavours will be far easier. It can also give you a better idea of how much you may need to spend on silencing measures.

What if it is not possible?

Unfortunately you may already have noisy systems. That means you can’t ensure you use the quietest equipment from the start. Instead you will need to put all of your effort into silencing them.

Luckily, there are several different things you can do here to tackle the noise. Ideally what you will need is a combination of materials that will provide sound blocking, dampening, and absorption. You can install them on noise reflecting surfaces close to the source.

In addition, you can look at path control. Even a small alteration here could mean a much smaller amount of noise will reach receivers. Again you can use materials that will block, dampen, or absorb sound.

On top of that you can also use specialist silencers. You can install them at various points along the sound path to address the problem.

Let us design a diffuser silencer for you

Ventx has a lot of experience with industrial noise. We understand how much of an issue it can be and the harm it can cause. Our goal is to help clients to address it so that their sites are safer. This can also protect the environment and people who live near to the site who may have to deal with the loud sounds.

  4. Knowing when noise becomes a concern
    6 April 2021

The issues associated with loud noises are hard to correct. Some are irreversible once they appear. Before they can fully manifest, you should take steps to reduce the sound levels. We can offer you a first rate solution in the form of our in-line silencer. In addition, there are several other designs we can provide. These products can lower noise in various settings, including different industrial facilities.

One problem with noise management is that many people don’t recognise when the noise should be a concern. We are going to discuss the matter here so that you know what signs to look for.

    Quieter noises

With the lowest extreme, when you can’t notice noise, there is no effect. As you increase your noise exposure, it shall become more and more noticeable. Yet, the sound won’t have any negative influence if the exposure does not cause any changes to attitude or behaviour. These quieter sounds only slightly affect an area’s acoustic character. However, it won’t to the point where there is a quality of life change. If your noise exposure is at this stage, you won’t need to use any specific measures.

    Increasing exposure

As the exposure begins to increase more, it passes the lowest level. Here, the noise begins to create small alterations to attitude and behaviour. At this point, you must consider mitigating the effect.

    Significant noise

Increasing your exposure to noise shall eventually lead to you crossing the significant observed adverse effect level. Above this stage, noise leads to a material change in behaviour when it is present. You should do everything in your power to prevent the noise from reaching this stage. The best solution you can use is an industrial silencer.

Let us design an in-line silencer for you

At Ventx, we are more than capable of providing you with the perfect silencer. Thanks to our acoustic modelling software, we can create a product that will fit in with your own systems. This is important because the last thing we want is for it to compromise a system.

If you wish to discuss the details with us, feel free to get in touch. We have the skills to deliver an in-line silencer that will be a real benefit to your facility and the surroundings. So, rely on us whether noise is an issue or you want to be proactive.

  5. Protecting your vents and silencers
    6 April 2021

Noise is a big problem in a variety of buildings and facilities. Luckily, we can help by offering silencers to suit an array of requirements. We are proud to be one of the most successful vent silencer designers in the UK. Our clients come from many industries, ranging from manufacturing to petro chem as well as many more. As a result, we have a wealth of experience and industry specific knowledge.

    Discharging

Some of the loudest noises come from discharge vents. They can be on a variety of systems, including cooling loops, HVAC systems, and natural gas pipelines. The loud sounds occur because high pressure gas or steam is vented and returning to atmospheric pressure.

The solution here is to use a vent discharge silencer. The models combine elements of diffuser and absorptive silencers. As a result gas or steam that enters can expand. This reduces the pressure and means there isn’t as much of a difference between it and the atmosphere outside. The end result is it generates much less noise when you need to vent the gas or steam.

    Protection

Many people will design their vent silencer purely with the noise reduction in mind. However, there are two other things you must also consider.

The first is the weather. Depending on the setting and location of the vent, you may need to choose a weather hood. This can prevent rain, hail, and snow from getting into the silencer. That is important as the moisture could cause issues inside it.

A second thing to think about is birds. You may not think this is a concern but it can be a big problem. There have been many cases of birds getting into vents and causing substantial damage. You definitely don’t want this if you are investing in a silencer with an absorptive core and diffuser. Any damage to either of them can affect the performance of the silencer. So, with that in mind you may need to choose bird screens to fit on your vents to prevent entry.

  6. Occupational noise mistakes that businesses must avoid
    6 April 2021

Anyone who has experience with industrial noise pollution will know how troublesome it is. It can cause many health issues, some of which are irreversible. To help prevent them, we design and provide a series of silencing products. This includes our attenuators. We create these devices specifically to reduce the noise in your work environments.

The thing about businesses is that they can make a series of occupational noise mistakes. Some simply go about their work and don’t give the noise much thought. In order to avoid the issues though, you need to know what they are and how to address them.

    Leave it as it is

Mistake number one is the most obvious one; it is neglecting to do anything about the noise. The reason why this is troublesome is that you could be exposing your staff and anyone else who enters the property to extreme noise levels. That can leave people with serious ear damage and other health problems.

To rectify this issue, start by identifying where there could be noise risks. Then, create a list of the people who are most likely to be affected. Lastly, acquire an attenuator to deal with the noise. You may also need to invest in ear protection and signage.

    Underestimating the problem

A second mistake businesses make is underestimating the problem. Noise is not visible to our eyes. Therefore, it is easy to overlook it and miss a major hazard. Even when they recognise the issue, they may underestimate what they need to do to solve it.

Some businesses will believe they can simply use Personal Protective Equipment. Sadly, this is not an especially effective form of noise control. Instead, it is best to use PPE in tandem with noise control measures that are more efficient. This includes attenuators.

Let us design an attenuator for you

At Ventx we use acoustic modelling software to ensure we provide the right products for every client. With it we can analyse your systems, allowing us to design silencers that suit your specific needs. This is vital as each application is unique. The silencer must be as well or it can cause more harm than good.

If you would like our help to create an attenuator, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We support clients in many noisy industries, including nuclear, manufacturing, and petro-chem.

Occupational noise mistakes that businesses must avoid
  7. Use attenuators to help with manufacturing and industrial noise
    6 April 2021

There are several ways you can deal with excessive noise levels. One of the most effective would be to use silencers. Our business is one of the leading silencer designers in the UK. We have spent years creating attenuator designs. As a result, Ventx can offer models specifically to work in our clients’ environments.

When you visit an industrial site, chances are you will come across some huge machines. They will likely be creating some very loud noises. These can disturb the people who work here and can cause serious harm to those who are exposed to them for long periods or too often. The sounds can disturb anyone who lives and works close by too.

Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem. You need to use attenuators of some description. You can install them in a noisy locale as well as areas with loud machines. The silencer will work to minimise the annoying, disturbing, and heavy sounds.

    There are many devices

There is more than a single type of device however, and it is important for you to know how different each of them is.

One of these designs would be the dissipative attenuators. You use sound absorbing materials with them to reduce the noise. Usually, you align these models with a parallel baffle arrangement. In addition, you can select the thickness of the acoustic baffles here. That means you can adapt it to the noise’s primary frequency.

Or you could choose reflective or reactive attenuators. The principal purpose of these models is to reflect the noise waves back to the source so it is not as loud at the end of the stream. This is where they get their name from.

Finally, there are diffuser or depressive attenuators. These models are ones you typically use for applications that include control waves, jet engines, and nozzles.

Come to us to design the right attenuator

At Ventx, we have more than a decade of experience in industrial silencer design. We use our knowledge of the industry to find cost effective and practical solutions. What’s more, we always have people on hand to help clients with their queries if they have any.

So, if you require an attenuator or have an issue with noise to address, please give us a call. We can help you to choose the right solution.

  8. Safe place vs safe person with noise control
    6 April 2021

Everyone wants the best solutions to deal with their noise issues. We are here to tell you that you can find some of the most reliable ones at Ventx. We use our experience and 3D modelling software to develop silencing tools. They will be capable of tackling the client’s problems. We can design an intake silencer and many other models, ensuring we can cater for most needs.

Noise is one the most widespread industrial hazards in the world. It is a major risk to millions of individuals while they are working. Employers have a moral responsibility to make certain that their employees stay safe in their place of work. There are several ways they can do this. That includes using silencers and ensuring people use the right PPE.

    An important topic

One topic that tends to come up here is the case of a safe place vs a safe person. Employers have to find a solution to reduce exposure to sound. However, they need to decide whether it would be better to ensure that the entire workplace is quieter or rely on keeping individual people safe with PPE. In many cases hearing protection should be a final resort.

    Make your workplace secure

Just like with other control strategies, employers should think about making the workplace safe first. This is prior to purchasing safety gear for the workers. As a result, safe place strategy is usually preferable to the safe person approach.

In every workplace, it would be wise to think about the layout and design of the structure. This is the best place to start when it comes to helping tackle noise.

Getting the designs right for ducts, pipework, and noisy systems can really help address the noise issue. You can also look at ways to silence these individual systems to make the whole space quieter.

In addition, you must remember that the amount of time someone is exposed to high noise levels is equally as important as the actual volume. You may need to create some quieter spaces with the building to give them breaks.

In most cases, you will need to think about a lot of details. This is because workplace noise reduction typically needs more than a single solution. Combining different noise reduction techniques can provide a better result overall too.

Want to learn more about using an intake silencer?

At Ventx we create silencers that all differ in terms of attenuation and design. This is necessary because there is no universal solution for every noise problem. In addition to benefiting your staff and visitors, our silencers will aid you in complying with UK environmental standards.

So, if there is a noise issue we can assist you with, please get in touch. We can give you lots of advice and then deliver an intake silencer or another model that will suit your needs. Ultimately we will help you to keep noise to a healthy level.

  9. Noise considerations for smoke shaft systems
    9 February 2021

People who frequently enter noisy environments are at a great deal of risk. As a result employers are constantly seeking out the best way to keep sound levels to a minimum. We believe we have the solution you are looking for. Our speciality is designing silencers capable of meeting all the requirements of a client. We can produce an in-line silencer and many other designs to suit them.

    Two types of shaft

When thinking about noise, you can separate smoke shafts into two groups. These would be ones without and those with day-to-day comfort ventilation provision. The latter are typically the simplest to handle. To be acceptable for regular use, it would have to be quiet. That means noise cannot exceed a certain level.

It is a little trickier when it is a system without the day-to-day ventilation. When systems are merely for emergency use, there is always one question you must ask. This is whether you require attenuation for standard testing. There is no generic answer here. However, a plethora of systems are not attenuated. In addition, testing is at times when short-lived noise will cause the least problems.

    Interior noise levels

Next, we will talk more about the interior noise levels. For those systems in day-to-day use, you will need a noise level that is reasonably low. For example, in a hotel corridor an acceptable noise level would be NR35-40. This would appear to be sufficient for a residential corridor too.

Without day-to-day ventilation here, there is no set noise limit for smoke control during an emergency. In most residential structures, there normally is not an alarm system that inhabitants have to hear. Therefore, a loud noise level might not be a safety issue.

In commercial establishments with an alarm set up that has sounders in the lobbies or other parts of the building, the noise level has to be 5dB below the alarm noise. This is the minimum requirement. The reason for this is so you can recognise and hear the alarm over other sounds. You might also need to keep the noise low so the rescue services can communicate.

Do you need an in-line silencer?

At Ventx we design silencers that allow you to deal with noise coming from all kinds of machinery and systems. This includes fans, duct work, generators, and compressors. Due to our acoustic modelling software, we can easily produce a silencer that works properly for you.

So, if you need our help, please get in touch with us. We can talk to you about how we create a bespoke in-line silencer or any other model to suit your needs. We also offer full support to ensure you get the best solution to your noise.

  10. Fan efficiency and noise go hand in hand
    9 February 2021

Fans can be vital in many industrial facilities and other buildings. However, using them can generate a lot of noise in some cases. When this happens it can harm people on and around the site. To tackle the issue, it is important to design the systems properly. It can also be necessary to use bespoke silencers. This could include an inline silencer that fits into the system.

    Prioritising efficiency

One thing everyone should know is that there is a very strong link between how efficient a fan is and how much noise it generates. When fans operate at maximum efficiency, they generate the least amount of noise. On the other hand, the more inefficient they are, the noisier they will be. As a result, in many situations you can improve things by making fans more efficient.

    Avoid bends

How flows approach a fan can have a big impact on both efficiency and noise. In some cases people design the systems so there is a bend close to the fan. This is something to avoid. What it does is disturb the flow and force it to change direction before entering the fan. In turn that creates a spot of higher pressure that then results in more noise.

The better option here is to design the system so that there is no bend in the approach to the fan. This will allow the flow to continue unimpeded and prevent the change in pressure. The end result will be a more efficient system and less noise.

    Damper or silencer placement

Some people place dampers or silencers too close to fan intakes or exhausts on these systems. While using these products is good for tackling noise, incorrect placement can actually cause more of it. This is once again because they disturb the flows.

The best option here is to ensure there is a section of straight open duct between any feature, including any kind of damper or silencer. What this does is help to minimise flow disturbances and the noise they create. This placement could reduce the sounds by up to 12dB in some cases.

Come to us for an inline silencer

Ventx is one of the most reliable providers of industrial silencing solutions in the UK. We design products for all kinds of clients, catering for industries like manufacturing, petro chem, and more. If there is an issue with noise, we will do our best to find a solution.

So, if you need help here please contact us. We can look at your systems and decide whether an inline silencer or another style would be most effective. We can also decide on best sizing and placement.

  11. Don’t let aerodynamic noise ruin performance
    9 February 2021

When many people think about the noise from processing plants, they focus on the health and safety side. However, excessive noises here can also ruin plant performance. It is important to think about this as even a small inefficiency can result in much higher costs. Ventx can help. We can offer products like a bespoke gas vent silencer and look at ways to tackle the issue.

    What is it?

Before we look at solutions, it is important to be clear on what aerodynamic noise actually is. It is any sound that comes from systems and vents because of the flows of air or gases through the system. The higher the flow, the louder the noises can be. The presence of anything that disrupts the flow, including valves, can also increase the noise.

    How does it hurt performance?

The noise from the systems is generally because of vibrations within them. The vibrating can cause all kinds of problems for performance. Firstly, it can affect how well control valves work. In the worst cases it can even damage them, causing even more noise.

In addition, lots of vibration in the system can hurt instrumentation. It can make them perform inefficiently and even cause damage. Keep in mind that some instruments are very sensitive and need to be carefully calibrated. Even small vibrations can ruin this.

The issue with aerodynamic noise is much worse in high throughput plants. A lot of companies try to increase the gas flows so they can process higher volumes. However, as the throughputs increase, so too do the pressures and flow speeds. That can generate a great deal more noise. This can be excessively high at spots like the valves and any gas vent on the system.

    The solutions

The best way to tackle aerodynamic noise is to carefully design the systems to be robust. The pipes, valves, and instruments should all have as much robustness as possible. You also need to ensure that each valve is the correct size to reduce noise here.

A robust system alone is not enough to tackle the problem though. You also need to treat the problem at the source where possible. Then you can look at path dampening. The combination of all three can provide the best results.

Talk to us about a gas vent silencer

Ventx has a great deal of experience in this area. In fact, we have been supporting clients struggling with noise issues in plants for many years. Our focus is on designing silencers that can be an effective part of source and path dampening solutions. We can offer a range of models here to suit almost any need.

  12. You shouldn’t ignore commercial soundproofing
    9 February 2021

To deal with the issues brought on by loud noises, you need the right products. We are a company that excels in supplying these items. You can rely on us to design and provide a high quality discharge silencer and various other models. Each design functions differently but they all work towards the same goal; reducing noise to a less harmful level.

One type of environment that can benefit from soundproofing is the commercial variety. When people design these spaces however, soundproofing tends to be an afterthought. The focus typically goes towards how everything is going to appear. Sadly this can sometimes mean that usability is lost. Soundproofing does an excellent job of creating a setting that benefits the users. It can help to provide privacy, efficient communication, and productivity.

    Soundproofing benefits

There are several benefits of commercial soundproofing that you will want to keep in mind. One of the most important advantages would be peace of mind for the inhabitants of these spaces.

The wellbeing of the people in these buildings should come first. As a result, lowering the noise needs to be a priority. This shall enhance workplace satisfaction and augment productivity levels. At the same time, it will lessen the mental and physical strains that come with persistent noise. There are some forms of noise that you can’t avoid. However, you can mask and reduce them considerably.

Soundproofing a commercial space has another benefit too. You can work towards adhering to the building regulations. You are making the effort to minimise health concerns that arise as a result of noise pollution.

Every commercial space is going to have a few issues to overcome. Many of them are because each space is unique. As such, you need a different solution for each one. We can provide these.

  13. Designing silencers to suit the type of gas you vent
    9 February 2021

Releasing high pressure gases to the atmosphere creates some very loud noises. As a result there are a number of health and safety regulations to observe. These protect people on the site, anyone in the nearby areas, and the environment. There are rules regarding where you can place a discharge vent and what you need to do if the noise is too excessive. In many cases it may be necessary to install silencers to reduce the sounds to a less hazardous level.

    Noise levels can differ dramatically

One thing industrial operators need to keep in mind is that the type of gas they are venting can have a big impact on the amount of noise. The sounds can differ greatly with different gases. This is because they don’t have the same molecular weight and specific gravity.

The most important fact to remember is that the lighter the gas is, the noisier it will be. So if you compare natural gas to air, the latter is always heavier and therefore won’t be as noisy to vent.

Another thing that has you need to think about is the temperature. This can have a big impact on the lightness of the gases and the amount of noise they will produce. For example, steam is lighter than air if the latter is cooler than 162 degrees Celsius. When it exceeds this temperature though, it becomes lighter. All gases lose density as their temperatures increase.

    Designing a discharge vent silencer

Ventx is proud to support industrial clients who have issues with certain types of noise. We can help with various things, including reducing the sounds that come from various types of vent and blowdown stacks. Our goal here is to deliver bespoke silencers that will bring the noise down to an acceptable level.

Clients rely on us because we have a wealth of experience and give them all the support they need. Most importantly our service is always bespoke. This is because we appreciate that every process is unique. Therefore it is never a case of fitting a standard silencer to a system. The silencers must be unique to tackle the problem. We design them so this is the case, making sure they fit the application perfectly.

So, if you need a discharge vent silencer for any kind of gas line, please contact us. We can deliver the perfect product for you.

Our company has a lot of experience in this area. We have spent years using our specialist software to produce silencers that can suit the application. This includes the blow down silencer and various other designs.

One of the most essential things in the industrial world is the growing need to control the noise transmissions. Facilities can be very noisy. As a result, controlling this is vital for several reasons.

    Safety

The first reason we will cover is the most important of the bunch. Addressing the noise is crucial for the safety of the management and workers on site. In loud conditions, it is easy for someone to misinterpret an instruction. At the worst times they may not hear directions at all. In both cases, injuries as well as performance issues can happen.

    Productivity

This is the next reason why you need to limit the noise. Our bodies are negatively influenced by exposure to extreme noise or sound pressure. This is a medically proven fact. The nervous system is unable to manage the stress such fatigue leads to. When workers suffer with it, they have a greater chance of not working to their full potential. They will probably make more mistakes too.

    Local areas

The final issue relates to the surrounding residential areas. Noise originating from a facility on a 24/7 basis is enough to drive anyone crazy. The amount of noise is probably going to be too much for the local communities. There is a good chance of them complaining and asking the government to intervene. When this occurs, it can result in a loss of productivity and shut downs. In the end, there is going to be an impact on your revenue so you really need to think about silencing.

Creating the right blow down silencer

At Ventx, we know how important it is to design the right silencer for the client’s needs. If you use the wrong model, you can compromise the systems you already own. With our help however, you will have the means to effectively reduce the noise coming from your facilities.

So, if you desire a blow down silencer or something similar, please contact us.

Businesses suffer when there is too much noise
  15. Knowing when there is too much noise
    6 January 2021

It eventually gets to the point where noise problems become too much to handle. If you do not attend to them, the loud sounds can result in many issues. The solution is to nip the problem in the bud and think about noise reduction. We can help you by supplying a first rate blow off silencer to help with this.

The trouble with noise is that it is sometimes difficult to see how much of it is too extreme for healthy hearing. We measure the sound in decibels. The majority of professionals concur anything underneath 70 decibels is a sufficient level for your hearing health. There are a few easy ways for you to gauge what is more than this.

    Conversations

Let’s use the example of a regular conversation. Speaking with someone next to you will be about 60 decibels. This is an excellent way of measuring other sounds you encounter in your life. Something you experience could be louder than an individual discussing matters with you in a regular voice. If so, there is a decent chance it is exceeding the limit of 70 decibels.

    Too loud to be safe

You could also think about the amount of noise coming from headphones we use in our mobile devices. Turning your stock headphones up to the maximum means you can expect to experience about 100 decibels of noise. This is far too loud to be safe. At the same time, it provides an idea of what is normal and what isn’t.

By using frames like these to think about the noises surrounding you, it is possible to retain an idea of what could be damaging your hearing. Things like televisions that you turn up to a loud volume can harm you. Things like power tools can also be noisy enough to cause damage if you use them for very long periods.

    Designing a blow off silencer

At Ventx, we have more than a decade of experience working in silencer design. Our team uses this in addition to our acoustic knowledge and quality manufacturing skills to produce top notch products. We serve clients in many industries with our practical and cost effective solutions.

So, if you want to design a blow off silencer or any other model, please contact us. You can even come to us to talk about the noises you have to deal with. We can then offer advice about what silencers to use.

Knowing when there is too much noise
  16. Reducing noise in natural gas production
    6 January 2021

Living close to natural gas operations can be very disruptive. One of the biggest issues is the noise. Locals tend to have complaints about the noises from the drilling, production, and transportation. The flaring and venting can be particularly noisy. Luckily there are things that can help. Natural gas silencers are one of the best options.

People in rural areas tend to have the biggest problems with the gas operations. This is because the overall noise levels are typically lower here than they would be in an urban area. That means less background noise. The fact the areas are less developed also means that sounds can travel further. The disruption can get worse when operations are ongoing for long periods day and night.

What to do to reduce the noise?

As we said above one of the things that can reduce the noise is silencers. Operators could add them in several areas to minimise the sounds. For example they can use them on noisy vents, cooling towers, and stacks. They can also be suitable for noisy HVAC systems and fans. Silencer designs can vary to suit all kinds of needs. In the best cases they can provide both attenuation and abatement.

However adding silencers to vents and noisy systems is not the only way to reduce noise from natural gas operations. Others include:

    • Restricting operating hours
    • Choose traffic controls so noisy vehicles are only on site during acceptable times
    • Invest in sound barriers on wells and around sites
    • Replace loud motors with quieter electric ones

    Designing your natural gas silencers

At Ventx we specialise in designing silencing equipment to suit various needs. We work with clients in an array of challenging industries, including oil and gas production. Our goal is to help every client to address sound problems on their sites. That way they can help them to build a better relationship with locals.

Our approach is to design a silencer to suit each specific application. This way we can ensure they deliver the best performance. So, if you need natural gas silencers yourself, contact us today.

  17. What prevents us from using baffles in silencers?
    4 December 2020

We all know what putting up with loud noises is like. However, there is something you may not know. Being around them too much can lead to permanent damage. To help combat this, our company provides top notch silencers. They can limit the noise coming from an air vent and various other sources.

When it comes to the subject of sound restriction, there is one question that people sometimes ask. This is why you don’t use baffles in a silencer. Before we get to that, let’s provide some background information on the baffle.

    What is it?

It is likely that you have seen this item before. Think about a recording studio for a moment. You will realise that the walls have a somewhat odd shape. They possess squares of triangular material. It is not unlike an egg box. People use them in places where there is huge degree of echo. What you are experiencing is the sound bouncing off robust exteriors, such as walls. Baffles absorb sound waves rather than allowing them to bounce off your walls.

    The issue

Baffles may do a great job at dispersing sound waves. However, the problem with using them in silencers is that they are effective at producing sound resistance. Furthermore, they create a decent amount of air resistance. This is not the best situation if you are attempting to ventilate something.

Inside a ventilation duct, when there is too much resistance, you must have a powerful fan to obtain enough air flow. This requires more energy and can create more noise. By using mineral wool rather than a baffle, you can produce enough resistance to the sound. This is without limiting the amount of airflow that is present.

Ask us to design an air vent silencer for you

At Ventx, we make sure our silencers work efficiently without undermining your current systems. By having them in your property, you can keep the workers and visitors safe. Not to mention, you will be adhering to the UK environmental standards.

Therefore, if you require a silencer for your air vent or any other system, please get in touch with our team. We can create a unique design for you.

  18. Having trouble with the air ducts?
    4 December 2020

Noise is capable of influencing us in several negative ways. Some of the damage can be permanent if people are not careful. We assist clients by providing them with silencers for noise sources like the ducts or a steam vent. To ensure our designs work, we use the latest acoustic modelling software.

When those hot summer days arrive, there is nothing better than having a cool breeze passing through your property. People use standard air ducts as well as air conditioning units here. Everyone understands the necessity of having decent ventilation. The last thing you want is mould and stale air all over your building.

There is an issue here though; the noise. Listening to the sounds of the fan filtering through the ducts can be very distracting. This can cause problems in all kinds of properties, including offices and industrial spaces. Finding a silent air con unit can be hard but getting your hands on a silencer is an easy affair.

    A device to reduce sound

Another name for the silencer is attenuator. What this means is to reduce something. In this case, it is sound. The truth of the matter is that the silencers do not eliminate all of the sound. However, they do reduce it.

The reduction is sufficient enough to be something to consider when you have an issue with a noisy ventilation system. Keep in mind that the sound is largely due to the fans pushing the air through the system. This also applies to noise of air flow going through the vents in your building. That is why it may also be wise to add silencers to steam vents too.

Designs for any kind of duct or steam vent

At Ventx, we have numerous silencer designs on offer. The list includes air compressor, generator, and fan silencers. The level of attenuation will differ between them. Appliance designs will too. However, they will all be able to reduce noise effectively.

So if you would like us to create a silencer for you, whether it is for a steam vent, duct, or anything else, please let us know. We can offer a full service, plus first rate aftercare.

  19. A closer look at the sources of industrial noise
    4 December 2020

Most industrial settings are noisy. This is because the operations rely on heavy equipment and tend to be home to large systems. However, there are ways to address the noise. The best thing to do is analyse the facility and then choose suitable industrial silencers. Ventx can help here, offering reliable products that will perform very well.

    Complex sound fields

The sound fields can be very complex in these facilities with sounds travelling via air and through solids. Sound waves can also reflect off floors, walls, ceilings, machinery housings, and more. It is unlikely there will be materials like carpeting or wall hangings to absorb some sounds. As a result more of the waves can rebound and cause louder sounds to spread through the property.

    Mechanical noise

Many of the loud noises in industrial facilities are this type. It happens because of vibrations in moving parts. As a result it can come from all kinds of machinery and even HVAC systems. Sounds can be louder because of the size of the vibrating area and the velocity of the vibrations. As a result it is important to look at both if you want to reduce the noise.

    Fluid noise

Loud noises can also occur because of air turbulence and vortices. The higher the velocity of the air flow, the louder the sounds can be. The main sources of these noises are fans, obstacles in the way of high speed flows, and a rapid change in discharge pressure. Here the key to silencing is reducing the flow velocity, ensure there are no obstacles in flows, and reducing turbulence.

    Examples of noise sources

The number of specific sources of industrial noise is very large. For example it could be gas or air jets, exhaust fans, vent exhausts, compressors, motors, pneumatic machinery, and high speed machines.

Let us design your industrial silencers

Ventx is one of the top companies in the UK when it comes to silencer design. We support clients in all kinds of industries, from manufacturing to chemical processing. If there is a problem with noise, we can work on solutions.

So, speak to us today if you need any help. Whether you have a huge facility or a small workshop, we can provide industrial silencers to reduce the noise. They can be for specific pieces of machinery or for HVAC systems, vents, and more.

  20. Two different types of noise to think about
    11 November 2020

Noise in industrial settings can be a very big problem. It can get so loud that it is harmful to people on the site, disturbing to people nearby, and damaging to the environment. There are lots of regulations in place in regards to the noise. Businesses must therefore ensure they comply or they could face big problems. Luckily Ventx can help by offering an industrial silencer to suit any need.

Before you start designing silencers though, you need to know about the types of noise you may be dealing with. There are two broad categories:

    Structure-borne

Here the sound is the result of vibrations. They can travel from a source to a receiver via solid material. The vibration can generate a lot of noise, especially when it is travelling through things like metal ducts and equipment housing.

    Airborne

Most noises will transmit from the source directly through the atmosphere to receivers. These sound waves can travel in all directions. As a result, they can cause a huge amount of trouble.

    The role of proper maintenance

Many of the noise problems on industrial sites are because of improper maintenance. This can mean systems and equipment are inefficient. In turn that can result in them creating more noise as energy is misdirected. A number of issues are a result of this kind of problem. For example it could be a belt slipping, steam leaking, issues with wear on bearings or gears, or problems with linkages.

A solution here is to ensure you have the right maintenance plan in place. You should be monitoring equipment regularly and taking care of upkeep. You also need to ensure you are replacing parts before they wear so much that a lot of energy is lost as noise.

Come to us for an industrial silencer

In some cases good maintenance alone is not enough to tackle the noise problems. Here the best solution is to choose the right silencers for each application. There are models to suit various needs, including structure-borne as well as airborne noises. Ventx can help, offering the best design services and expert manufacturing.

If you are having issues with noise, please contact us. We can talk to you about why an industrial silencer is the right option for you. Then, we can use our design software to create the perfect model for you.

  21. Advice for the selection and installation of safety valves
    11 November 2020

Noise pollution can cause its fair share of problems. What you may not know is that you can potentially avoid these issues if you use the right utensils. Our company excels in providing silencers to clients that need them. They come in a variety of models such as vent, inline or safety valve silencer.

When working with safety valves, there are several important considerations you need to keep in mind. We want to take a look at some of the most important ones below.

    Seal tightness

This is one of the most important things to think about. It is crucial to plan for it when choosing and installing your own valves.

For one thing, it can result in a major loss of system fluid. Secondly, it can lead to the sealing faces degrading. This can cause a premature lifting of the valve.

The seal tightness is influenced by three primary elements. Firstly, there is the safety valve’s characteristics. Next, we have the installation. The final one is the valve’s operation.

    Noise emission

This is something else you need to be aware of. Discharge from your safety valves is not something that should happen regularly. If it does however, the noise can be substantial. Therefore, it is a necessity to figure out the sound level of the valves. You must do this to make certain that you don’t exceed the relevant health and safety regulation levels.

    Silencing

There are multiple ways in which you can lower the noise level here. One of the simplest would have to be employing huge diameter discharge pipes. You could also lag the discharge pipe but you can’t lag the valve. The best option for when there is a lot of noise however would have to be a silencer.

Talk to us about designing a safety valve silencer

At Ventx, we have silencers that enable their users to manage the noises originating from all sorts of machinery. When matching a silencer to the specific application, we make it a point to be careful. This makes it easier for us to provide the perfect products to you.

  22. Autoclaves are more important than ever now
    11 November 2020

There are lots of vital pieces of equipment in the healthcare sector. One machine that is often overlooked though, is the autoclave. It is easy to forget just how important it is. However, without them it would be harder to disinfect things. They are proving to be even more essential during the fight against COVID-19. At Ventx we can help the people who use them by offering a reliable autoclave silencer.

    What does an autoclave do?

These machines use steam at a high temperature and under high pressure to disinfect various items. This can include medical devices such as surgery tools. The steam should be 97% vapour and 3% moisture. This will deliver the most effective heat transfer and faster disinfection.

Autoclaves can vary in size to suit different needs. For example, there can be small models for labs or operating theatres that only need enough capacity for a few trays. On the other hand, some medical facilities have much larger models so they have the capacity for up to twenty trays. Then there are industrial size models that can be as big as a truck.

    COVID-19

The battle against coronavirus is continuing all around the world. Because it is so contagious, disinfection is important. That is why autoclaves are an essential tool. They can help researchers and people conducting testing. The high heat and pressure of the steam can kill the virus and any other bacteria.

    Is an autoclave silencer necessary?

At Ventx we appreciate that some of the most essential pieces of equipment can be noisy. Autoclaves are no different. This can cause some concerns, especially when using them in areas where there will be a lot of people around. Prolonged exposure to the noise could be detrimental to their health. Luckily, there are solutions available. We can design a silencer to reduce the noise.

If you need a reliable silencer, you can talk to us about it. Simply get in touch and tell us about your machinery and the setting.

  23. Why are my boiler’s pipes banging?
    11 November 2020

Loud noise affects us in various negative ways. Therefore, we should be doing our best to keep it to a minimum. The problem is that this is more difficult in industrial settings. What you need is the right specialist equipment. We can assist you here by providing first class silencers, including steam boiler silencer designs and many more.

If you own a boiler system, it is likely you are familiar with the noise of your pipes banging occasionally. They will do this without warning. You are probably wondering what is causing the issue. In addition, you may not know whether it is harmful to your system or not. We are going to offer you an explanation of what these sounds may be.

    Air

One recurring cause of banging sounds within these systems is air in the pipes. It can enter the pipe due to a number of reasons. For example, it can happen if you have recently replaced a component or if there is a defective valve. This is particularly common for boilers that supply radiators. If air gets in the system it can result in pressure fluctuations. These make loud banging or gurgling noises.

    Trapped water

This is another potential source of the noise. Once water gets trapped inside your boiler, it is subjected to more heat than it can handle. From here, it evaporates into steam. As this happens, it expands. It does so to roughly 1,700 times its volume. Such a drastic and sudden rise in pressure may be the culprit behind the banging sounds.

Choose us for a reliable steam boiler silencer

At Ventx, we design and manufacture silencers in ways that ensure they meet your specific requirements. The different models we create shall vary in terms of attenuation levels and design. However, they will all be able to do their job. We have experience designing products for all kinds of needs, including large, noisy industrial boilers.

If you require a steam boiler silencer, contact our team today. We can discuss your needs and then deliver the perfect product.

  24. Acoustic attenuation explained
    11 November 2020

Every business wants to get the best industrial silencer design. To do so, you have to match the silencers to the application. This is possible for our company as we have the best acoustic modelling software. We use it to analyse your systems so that the silencer will fit but not interfere with them.

Noise induced hearing loss is a major health issue. This is especially true for people who work in the manufacturing industry. Such a condition tends to be the result of regular exposure to loud sounds. Those ones that are above 85 decibels can cause damage over time. These noises are common in many facilities like these.

A number of businesses are adopting industrial silencers. They are doing so to reduce the negative effects of loud manufacturing floors and machinery. A silencer can assist with acoustical attenuation as well. It is wise to look at what this is before you pick your own silencers.

    Two ways to be dispensed

Acoustic attenuation is the erosion of sound as it moves through separate materials. Sound waves get dispensed, and therefore diminished, in two manners.

The first way this occurs is via absorption. This uses porous substances to absorb the sound waves. Then, it turns the sound energy into heat. Finally, it disperses into the atmosphere.

The second element is scattering. This redirects the sound waves, turning them away from their initial path. At times, the waves can be travel back to the original source of noise.

Acoustic attenuation unites these two approaches. It does so to lower noise perception and volume. Reactive and absorptive silencers use a mixture of the methods. Steam vent and combination silencers do too. They do this so they can attenuate noise inside industrial environments.

Come to us for industrial silencer design

At Ventx, we have more than a decade’s worth of experience in acoustic attenuation. Due to this, our skills are second to none. Clients in various industries take advantage of our services. This includes power and petro chem. Your company could be next on the list.

If you would like to work with our team, or have questions about industrial silencer design, please let us know. We are happy to provide more info.

  25. How can you save money with industrial noise reduction?
    11 November 2020

At Ventx we appreciate how stressful it can be when you have to take care of noises in different facilities. The business might be struggling with complaints from neighbours or member of the public. However, they may not have a huge budget for industrial noise reduction. Luckily, we can help. We may be able to deliver the perfect silencing solutions while also helping the client to save money.

    Targeting the right things

The main reason businesses spend large amounts on reducing noise is they don’t target the right things. You could invest a great deal and not get the results you are looking for if you don’t focus on the correct transmission path. In fact, if you are focusing on the wrong things you may find little or no reduction in the noise.

Your goal should actually be to address noise at the source and in the transmission path. This is the best way to ensure you have an effective solution. It will also ensure you invest in the right places.

The best way to ensure you are targeting the right things is to have a good look at your facility. Find the sources of the noise and the transmission paths. You will need to look at things like noisy fans, vents, machinery, and other systems. Most of these you can then silence at the source. For example, you can design bespoke silencers to offer attenuation and absorb sound waves.

    Making it bespoke

At Ventx we can design unique solutions for various noises issues. We have access to the latest 3D modelling software. This can give us a much better idea of how sounds filter around your property. It can therefore help us to target the sources and transmission paths. We then use the data to design the right silencers.

Our method of addressing the noise is more effective than choosing measures like enclosures. While they can be effective, they seek to trap the noise rather than addressing it at the source. They could also quite expensive and may make using different machinery and systems more challenging.

Talk to us about industrial noise reduction

If you have an issue with noises in your facility or escaping from it, we would love to help. Clients in an array of industries work with us because we can offer reliable results and great value for money. In larger facilities with lots of machinery, our silencers could be the most cost effective option.
