George Emmott (Pawsons) Ltd

We specialise in the supply of spring clips, spring pressing and flat springs. Flat springs can take on a variety of forms, from simple leaf springs operating in a single plane to a complex clip action operating in several planes at the same time.

Clock Type Springs

These are so named from their original use for storing energy from which clocks were driven. They have since found many other applications, particularly in re-winding and counterbalancing systems. This type of product essential come in three forms, open coiled where only a few turns are required, close coiled, and close coiled pre-stressed where a greater number of turns are needed. The choice of which depends on several factors so please contact out Technical Team for guidance on this.

Compression, Tension & Torsion Springs

Emmotts supply and manufacture a large range of the more traditional springs such as compression, tension and torsion springs. Modern plant and equipment ensure product quality and competitiveness whilst ensuring that hand skill are still available to produce shorter runs when required.

Emmotts also have the capabilities to manufacture wire forms and supply a wide range of industries.

  • Wire diameters up to 25mm
  • Wide range of materials
  • Design assistance available
  • Long or short production runs

Constant Force

The spring derives its name from its ability to extend through its working range whilst being maintained in any position by the same force. These are essentially a tightly wound coil of spring steel or stainless steel with the inner end being fitted over a shaft whilst the outer end is extended. The natural curvature across the material width then produces a constant retraction force. This type of spring can also be used in a motor arrangement where the spring is wound in operation onto a smaller drum. By doing this it is possible to produce a constant torque motor or rewind system which can be used for counterbalancing. Other applications include fast acting fire dampers in air conditioning ducts to springs being used to push product forward in point of sale devices.

  • Strip widths up to 150mm
  • Strip thicknesses from 0.05mm to 1.00mm
  • Materials: Stainless steel and Spring steel
  • Design assistance available
  • Standard parts available

Waved Washers

We are internationally renowned for our series of waved washers used to pre-load bearings in electric motors. Recent developments have enabled us to address diverse applications in situations where relatively high loads are required from limited deflections, for example seals and valves. Split or slotted waved washers can be produced also and materials range from spring and stainless steel to copper and nickel alloys.

Waved Washer Springs

Emmotts have over the years gained an enviable reputation for their manufacturing capabilities for waved washers and are a world leader in the supply to the electric motor industry. Whilst these were designed and developed to pre-load bearings in electric motors they have since found many other uses throughout industry. Waved washers offer a neat solution for situations where space is limited or only small deflections are required.

We have a comprehensive range of tooling for this type of product often meaning that new sizes can be produced without the need for specialist tooling.

  • Outside diameter up to 400mm
  • Thickness from 0.05mm to 4mm
  • Up to 12 waves
  • Extensive range of materials
  • Standard ranges for popular bearing sizes
  • Design assistance where needed

Specialist Springs

Over the years we have long been involved in the manufacture of products that do not readily fall into a defined category. We produce a wide variety of specialist items, such as Disc Springs, Shim Washers, Telescopic Volute Springs, Volute and Secateur Springs, and many other besides. We are also involved in assembly work for many of our clients where the products we supply are assembled with other components to complete our clients devices. We have a specialized section to undertake this type of work ensuring product quality and economic supply.

Flat Pressings & Clips

Flat springs are so called since they are made from flat strip steel. Emmotts produce a wide variety of this type of product for all manner of applications throughout industry. Most applications involve gripping or flexing. The range of shapes and sizes are almost endless and bounded only by the imagination. Emmotts have the ability to produce all manner of this type of product using techniques which are dependent upon the quantity required. A huge array of standard tooling enables us to satisfy lower quantity needs without having to produce purpose made tooling, whilst for larger quantities we have our own in-house tooling section so that these can be produced economically.

  • Material thicknesses from 0.05mm to 6.50mm
  • Design assistance available
  • In-house tooling section
  • Wide range of materials, spring steel, stainless steel, mild steel, copper alloys and exotic nickel alloys
  • Standard tooling for small quantities
