Transducers

Essentially transducers are devices that convert one form of energy into another. This is usually done using a signal. Therefore, transducers convert a signal in one form to a new signal in the converted form. Transducers are used in control, automation and measurement systems and various qualities can be involved: light, motion, torque, force or energy. The main types of transducers are temperature transducers, pressure transducers, displacement transducers and flow transducers. They all have specific features relevant to their type. For example, pressure transducers use components called strain gauges to convert the load that comes into contact with the transducer. There are subtle differences between sensors and transducers, but some transducers are often referred to as sensors. Transducers have a vital part to play in a vast range of machinery types and applications across various industries.
