Battery chargers are devices that are used to put energy into a rechargeable battery to give it power again. They work by forcing an electrical current through the battery and restoring power. They are commonly used today in both the workplace and home to recharge electrical devices. For example, battery chargers are commonly used to charge mobile phones, toothbrushes, watches, cars, shavers, tablets, computers and many other devices with a battery.

Lead acid batteries are commonly used in automotive starter motors, ignition and lighting. Common types of lead acid batteries include flooded, sealed, VRLA, AGM, and GEL. Lead acid batteries are compact and have a large power-to-weight ratio.

A lithium ion battery is a type of rechargeable battery with a high-energy density, low self-discharge, tiny memory effect and long lasting power solution. Lithium ion batteries are widely used in home electronics and are growing in popularity in the fields of military, aerospace and battery electric vehicle applications.

A lithium polymer battery is a rechargeable battery which is in a pouch format for flexibility. Common types of polymer batteries include Lithium 9 volt, AA, and AAA size which are used in a wide range of applications including radio controlled equipment, personal electronics, electric vehicles, Nerf modelling and Airsoft applications.

Nickel Cadium (NiCd) batteries are rechargeable batteries which come in a variety of types including regular alkaline, reusable alkaline and Lithium. Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) batteries are used in electric vehicles, aircraft starting batteries, and standby power and are regulated by EU law.

Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are one of the most common types of rechargeable batteries. They are popular due to the fact that have can be recharged at any time, without the need to wait for full draining. Types of Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries include regular alkaline, reusable alkaline and Lithium.

Rechargeable batteries can sometimes be used in place of a disposable battery making them a popular option for children’s toys; these are ideally charged with a smart battery charger that stops when the battery is ‘full’ so reducing the risk of overheating. Cordless power tools require specific batteries and chargers, although it is possible to purchase replacements separately. Car, laptop and mobile phones have built in rechargeable batteries which are charged either by plugging the device’s specific charger into the mains or, in the case of motor vehicles, by the engine.
