Planing Machines
Planing machines as the name suggests use plane or linear relative motion between the workpiece and the cutting tool for cutting it. Planing machines are also known as planers and work like a shaper, although larger in size than a shaper. Planing machines can be mainly divided into two broad categories namely linear and helical Planing machines. Although, linear motion planing machines dominate the industry, helical Planing machines are also used for cutting several materials. Planers dominated the metalworking industry for a long time but in recent times have fallen out of fashion as modern CNC based laser cutting machines, CNC milling machines, and Grinding machines provide a more effective way for cutting. Nonetheless planers are used by several small and mid-scale industries for metalwork.
