Drums
Drums are essential to functioning of any modern laser printer. Drums are also known as imaging unites, imaging drums, photoreceptor, or photoreceptor drum. Drums are basically cylindrical in shape and their function is to transfer toner powder, images and text to a paper after a laser has imprinted these on to an electrically charged drum surface. The principle on which a drum operates is quite simple, drum and toner are given negative charges during the printing process and due to their negative nature, both attract and stick to each other. This toner dust is then transferred to the paper via rollers in a process known as fusion. Drums are designed to last longer and can print thousands of pages. Although, like other printer parts, drums also need to be replaced due to tear and wear during the printing process.
