Sand, Water and Environmental Play

Playgrounds and playparks provide children with an environment for outdoor play. Amongst various equipment, including seating, sheltering and play equipment, these play spaces include elements which allow for tactile experiences – these include sand, water and environmental play. Sand, water and environmental play is the experience of playing with sand, water and natural elements like mud and foliage, with the aim of fuelling children’s curiosity and imagination. Types of sand, water and environmental play equipment includes sand pits, spades, buckets, rackets, sieves, water trays, water tables, boats, hoses, beach boxes, bridges, mud kitchens, and play huts. Sand, water and environmental play equipment is widely used in nurseries, preschools and schools to aid children’s learning in a fun way.
