Plating
Plating is used to describe the process where metal is deposited on a conductive surface, either to decorate or to give extra values in terms of performance or resistance against corrosion. Types of plating methods include electroplating, vapour deposition under vacuum and sputter deposition. However, in the most common version of plating a solid surface is covered with a metal sheet, and then heat and pressure are applied to fuse them together. Plating is widely used to decorate objects like jewellery (silver or gold plating). However, it is also used to harden, improve wearability or reduce frication and is employed but the aerospace and automotive industry for that purpose.
