Powder Coating
Powder coating is a coating that is free-flowing, dry powder. The difference between normal liquid paint and powder coating is that a powder coating does not require any type of solvent. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then set under heat. In comparison to liquid paint, powder coating can produce thicker coatings that are harder wearing. Because powder coating is so durable, it’s the go-to for the paint on wheel alloys and bicycle frames. The two most common types of powder coating are thermosets and thermoplastics. Powder coating is used for coating metals like household appliances, aluminum extrusions, drum hardware, and automobile and bicycle parts because it is tougher than conventional paint.
