Compression Moulding
Compression moulding is a method of moulding where the moulding material is preheated and is placed in an open, heated mould. The mould is then closed with force, or by a plug, and pressure it applied to force all enclosed materials to be in contact with all mould areas. Heat and pressure are maintained until the moulding materials have set (known as ‘cured’). Compression Moulding is a common process for the production of rubber, silicone, and synthetic rubber parts. Compression moulding has a cost advantage over injection moulding and transfer moulding, and it has significantly less waste. Compression moulding is used to make soft and elastic products like seals and O-rings, electrical insulators, vibration dampening or impact softening pads, soft protective jackets, silicone wrist bands and Wellington Boots.
