Electrical Power and Machines is one of the most important areas of study for students in further and higher education. As we become more aware of the finite energy resources available to us, it is imperative that we use them in the most efficient manner. Engineers and technicians need to know which machines and motors are best suited for particular applications, how to generate and distribute power with the minimum losses and how electrical circuits behave at higher voltages and currents. For example, would the same type of motor be ideal for use in a DVD Drive as might be required for a Power Tool or a Railway Locomotive? How can we distribute and utilise the maximum amount of power? Why do we use Three Phase electrical power generation? How do we control Electrical Machines with Power Electronic devices or PWM drives?
Feedback Instruments Limited has been supplying teaching and training systems to educational establishments throughout the world for over fifty years. Using the experience we have gained, we have configured a teaching system for Electrical Power and Machines which addresses the requirements of colleges and universities and enables students to get a “hands-on” understanding in these subjects.
Feedback offers two approaches to the teaching of Electrical Machine principles. The unique Feedback Dissectible Machine is designed to introduce students to the principles of electrical motors and generators and allows them to construct various types of motors and generators using a large selection of components.
Alternatively, Feedback offers a series of closed machines which provide curriculum coverage for Electrical Circuits, Transformers and Motors and Generators.
An understanding of Electricity and Electronics is a primary requirement in all branches of engineering and science education. A challenging and interesting medium is required to hold the attention of students in such a multi-discipline area of study.
The wide range of work boards available from Feedback meets the majority of needs in academic, vocational and industrial training establishments, and provides a hands-on approach.
Hardware is supported by comprehensive teaching manuals and, in many cases, detailed Discovery software for Computer Assisted Learning is available. Discovery courseware provides the student with on-screen assignments and PC based instrumentation when applicable.
The work boards can be used in two ways, depending on the methodology required.
The use of conventional instruments - oscilloscope, frequency and digital multimeters etc. - in making measurements is of importance in the training of service technicians and engineers. The use of PC based instrumentation and courseware offers a reduction on lab requirements for conventional test equipment and is more suited to general electricity and electronic course training needs.
Two types of work boards are available, one that requires the circuit to be constructed by the student from discrete components mounted on pin carriers and the other that has pre-mounted components required for a specific area of study.

For many years fluid and air power has provided the industrial 'muscle' to move mechanical systems. These systems involve the generation, transmission and control of pressurised fluid or gas. This form of power and its associated components offer a relatively simple and low cost means to implement high power design solutions and automatic manufacturing control systems. One of the advantages of such a power source is its safe use in environments of high flammability where the use of electrical power can be restricted or prohibited. The components used in fluid and air systems tend to be relatively uncomplicated consisting mainly of mechanical parts that can be easily constructed to perform specific process operations. Their simplicity offers low maintenance, high reliability with high efficiency and compactness making them an ideal choice in many applications over their electrical/electronic counter parts.
There are numerous applications of fluid and air power, some can be found in our daily lives in obvious applications such as motor vehicle braking and suspension systems, lifts and jacks through to aircraft flap controls, industrial road breakers, and material crushers.
One area where this power is extensively applied is in the manufacturing industry where the power is used to automate processes through the application of actuators, sensors and motors forming systems that control the process activity, partly, and in some applications, from start to finish.
This extensive product range has been conceived for the training of technicians, engineers and maintenance staff that require knowledge of the many technical disciplines applied in today's manufacturing industries. Armed with this knowledge technical staff are able to cope with the wide variety of problems that can arise with regularity in the industrial work place.
The Feedback range of Robotic and CNC trainers covers many of the techniques used in materials handling, machining processes and the manufacture, handling and assembly of components. These trainers involve electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic devices that are used to make fully working, industrially representative systems but on a much smaller scale and at lower cost.
This versatile range of products is available as separate modules that can be configured as the system of your choice or as a pre-configured workcell. The range includes SCARA and Articulated Robots which are used in conjunction with CNC machining stations and conveyors to form workcells that perform various manufacturing operations. The workcells are supplied with a computer, pre-loaded with specialised WALLI software, which is used to program the individual equipments. The program sequences are then executed to complete the workcell task.
Telecommunications is one of the world's fastest growing industries and world-wide personal communication of voice, picture and data is now commonplace.
The Feedback range of Telecommunications equipment has been designed to provide a modern, efficient approach to training the engineers and technicians working in this field.

Alternatively, laboratory work can be carried out using equipment connected to a PC enabling it to take advantage of Feedback's Discovery courseware, which offers on-screen instruction and embedded, real-time, virtual instrumentation.
Both these teaching philosophies are valid ways of demonstrating technical characteristics, but the underlying principle that both share is giving the Student the opportunity to work with real hardware and avoid simulation.
Process Control is a fundamental engineering discipline which needs to be studied in many institutions.
Process Control depends upon measurement - requiring a detailed understanding of the relevance, accuracy and different techniques which may be used and applied in open and closed loop systems.
The requirement for Process Control is evident not only to maintain quality and efficiency, but also to conserve energy and materials. There are many different processes which need to be controlled including level, flow, temperature, pressure, pH, etc. All these and many more processes can be found in industries such as Petrochemical, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Brewing, Water and Foods etc.
Whilst addressing some aspects of advanced control theory, this range of products is designed to present the subject with a practical 'hands on' approach.
Depending on the process requirement, different levels of control are also addressed - using different devices such as Industrial Process Controllers and PLCs.
Process Control with Feedback's products involves a wide range of equipment from computer based trainers using industrial control, to conventional fault finding and measurement in order to deliver training applicable to process industries from refrigeration maintenance, to the 'state of the art' technology used in oil and gas refining.
