We can offer support for your existing staff to skill or up skill. Also we provide an apprentice recruitment service to help reduce time and cost as taking on a new member of staff.

What are Apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are for anyone who is aged 16 or above. Apprentices’ ‘earn as they learn’. An Apprentice is employed and will work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills and experience at the same time as working towards a qualification relating to their role and industry sector.

The apprentice will have a contract of employment and will be paid a salary. There is a National Apprentice Minimum Wage which changes on the 1st October every year; current rates can be found at https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates

Levels of Apprenticeships

Intermediate Apprenticeship – work towards a Level 2 qualification, Functional Skills and a knowledge-based Technical Certificate.

Advanced Apprenticeship – work towards a Level 3 qualification, Functional Skills and a knowledge-based Technical Certificate.

Higher Apprenticeship – work towards a Level 4 or 5 qualifications, Functional Skills and knowledge –based Technical Certificate.


An Apprentice will spend most of their time in the workplace gaining ‘on the job’ training and experience. Some Apprenticeships involve ‘off the job’ training which means they would need to come into IPS. This depends on the Apprenticeships so they could come in for x1 day per week or in block placements (relating to engineering apprenticeships).

These Apprenticeships are covered both in the workplace and involve 'off-the-job' training and the Apprentice may need to attend IPS International, Rochester for this training.
