Fixed glass rooflights are available from our Solarglaze, Starglaze, and Thermalight rooflight ranges. The Starglaze rooflights are supplied complete with their own vertical or splayed PVC kerbs and the Solarglaze rooflights are supplied complete with an insulated timber kerb providing an overall rooflight U Value of 1.24 W/m²K.
Thermadome rooflights are thermoformed from either polycarbonate or acrylic sheet and are available in single, double or triple skin construction. Polycarbonate is virtually unbreakable, with an impact strength 250 times greater than glass. Acrylic has an impact strength 10 times greater than glass. Thermadome rooflights can be supplied in clear, opal diffused, bronze or 'Heatstop' (reflecting up to 68% of the heat radiation) glazing. All polycarbonate Thermadome rooflights use a minimum 3 mm thick glazing. Acrylic Thermadome rooflightd have a minimum 3 mm outer skin. Inner skin thickness varies according to the dome size.
Dome shaped Thermadome rooflights are available square, rectangular or circular. Pyramids are available in square or rectangular units. A limited range of triangular pyramid Thermadomes are available.
Offered in an extensive range of sizes from 400 x 400 mm to 1700 x 2900 mm. Many sizes are available ex-stock for immediate delivery.
Therma-kerbs Thermadome kerbs are designed to be used in conjunction with Thermadome rooflights and are finished in white internally. Therma-kerbs represent excellent value for money and will enhance the overall appearance of the rooflight. The heights of Therma-kerbs are 150 mm, 300 mm and 500 mm.
The standard Therma-kerb is made from extruded white PVC-u. The multi-chambered construction gives an exceptionally robust and thermally efficient performance. This kerb is suitable for most roof finishes.
Therma-kerbs can also be supplied in GRP which have integral 10 mm polyurethane foam insulation and robust dome fixing and mounting flanges. It can be used with any roofing material.
Special GRP versions are also available 150, 300 and 500 mm high. These have 20 mm of integral insulation.
Where the rooflight is to be used as means of access on to a roof, a fully opening frame can be specified for mounting either direct to a builders kerb or in conjunction with Therma-kerb or Alu-kerb adaptors.
PVC-u frames are for use with Therma-kerb and Alu-kerb upstands. Aluminium frames are for use with builders kerbs.
Standard features include a locking handle to secure the rooflight in the closed position and telescopic struts to hold the rooflight in the open position. The telescopic struts have adjustable friction control and can be set according to the dome weight and prevailing site conditions. The hatch can be supplied with Thermadome thermoformed polycarbonate glazing or an insulated aluminium cover.
Permanent ventilation is provided by means of spacer washers inserted in the Thermadome rooflight fixings. A gap of 5–10 mm can be provided around the complete perimeter, without compromising the security or weather protection of the rooflight.
Trickle ventilators can be factory fitted to the top of Therma-kerb PVC 150 and 300 mm or PVC opening frames. The vents are fitted to two sides as standard and will provide background ventilation of 8000 mm2 to satisfy the requirements of Building Regulations.
Controlled Louvre Ventilation
A vent collar unit fitted with adjustable louvres is located between the rooflight dome and the builder's kerb. Units are available as a 100 mm high aluminium collar with white foamed PVCu insulating lining internally or a 150mm high white multichambered PVCu collar. The vents are fitted to two opposite sides as standard. All four sides of the rooflight may be fitted with vents, if higher levels of airflow are required. For Alu-kerbs, Alu-kerb adaptors and Therma-kerbs 300 mm high, the vents and cowls are fitted directly in the side wall. The fully adjustable louvre vents are operated by means of a hooked rod, available in lengths of 1.5, 2 or 3 m. The louvres are protected from the elements by an external weather cowl.
Where natural ventilation is insufficient, Thermadome rooflights can be supplied with Vent Axia Solo centrifugal extract fans. These are mounted in the side wall of Therma-kerb PVC-u 150/v or Therma-kerb PVC-u 300/s. These high performance extract fans are specifically designed for ventilating internal bathrooms, WC's and other small rooms. They have an extract performance of 85 m3/hr (24 l/s) and can be fitted in one or more sides. Where greater air movement is required, white PVC lined fan collars with pre-cut apertures are available to enable fitting of larger axial fans (eg Vent-Axia T-series).
Drawing Showing Opening Ventilation Where maximum natural air movement is required; Thermadome rooflights can be supplied fitted with hinged opening frames, with a manual spindle operated by a winding rod (or electric motor for remote control). Where the hinged side exceeds 1.3 m a tandem spindle unit is fitted. Frames are constructed from PVC-u, for use when fitted to Therma-kerb or Alu-kerb upstands. Alternatively, where mounting directly to a builder’s kerb, an aluminium frame is supplied. Electric motors can be supplied complete with open/close switches (wiring by others) and can be specified to open up to 600 mm, both options are an extra cost option. Insect screens are available in most sizes when supplied with Therma-kerbs or Alukerb upstands and manual opening frames.

This range of rooflight kerbs has a U value of 1.8 W/m²K using an all thermoplastic construction for outstanding thermal efficiency, high resistance to weathering and low maintenance. The Mark 2 is formed from enhanced UV protected polycarbonate with vented airspaces. The integral cascade water management system ensures that moisture drains to the outside of the building and air leakage meets Part L criteria.

A 2mm wall thickness ensures weld strength and a weather seal on all opening rooflights maintains weather-tightness. A special 'key' finish to the PVCu kerb assists the adhesion of a membrane and the PVCu kerb is also torch-on system friendly. The security frame is also available as an option.
This kerb is now also available in a vertical option to maximise daylight.
This thermally broken metal system offers considerable flexibility whilst complying with maximum allowable (under Part L) U value of 2.2 W/m²K. Frames and kerbs are finished in white as standard but coloured kerbs are also available. The integral cascade water management system ensures that moisture drains to the outside of the building and air leakage meets Part L criteria. The security frame is also available as an option.
This GRP kerbed system is designed for circular rooflights whilst also complying with the maximum allowable (under Part L) U value of 2.2 W/m²K. Rooflights are triple skinned as standard with enhanced UV protected polycarbonate and vented airspaces, and air leakage meets Part L criteria.
This metal system offers considerable flexibility for unheated areas where thermal insulation is not an important criteria. Frames and kerbs are finished in white as standard but coloured kerbs are also available. Mark 5 rooflights can be square, rectangular or circular in shape and single glazed as standard with enhanced UV protected polycarbonate. The security frame is also available as an option and multiple skin options are available upon request.
Ventilation Options for Stardome Rooflights
Unventilated - Often referred to as a 'fixed' rooflight, ideal for situations where ventilation is not required. NOTE: Before specifying this option it is advised to check that the ventilation required by AD Part 'L' & AD Part 'F' for the room below is provided by other means, thus ensuring the risk of condensation is minimised.
Hit & Miss Ventilation - Provides minimal background ventilation.
Rotary Vent - A unique rotary action vent controller offers variable ventilation, distinctive internal appearance, smooth and silent operation and prevents 'in-blown' roof debris and water ingress.
Manual Worm Gear Ventilation- The whole rooflight top hinges open via a manual operated hooked rod to allow ventilation through the open ventilated area.
Linear Motor Ventilation - The whole rooflight top hinges open via an electric linear actuator to allow ventilation through the open ventilated area.
Manual Access Hatch
Manually operable access hatches are available in a selection of sizes using either gas assisted struts or restriction stays to support the open top. They open up to approximately 90 degrees and are available with either the Vertical Mark 2 or Mark 3 kerb.
Stardome rooflights are bespoke products and a range of shapes is available including those shown below. Virtually any size can be accommodated, although designers may wish to consider the guide sizes shown here which relate to other characteristics, such as ventilation.
Stardome rooflights are manufactured from high quality UV protected polycarbonate which offers high impact resistance as well as a variety of glazing options in either clear, diffused, opal or bronze.
Stardome rooflights are available in either a single, double or triple skin units. By using double or triple skin rooflights, the possibility of internal condensation can be reduced significantly.
Rooflight Glazing Colours
The various glazing layers in Stardome rooflights can be supplied in four types of colours: clear, diffused, opal or bronze with each of their characteristics described below. Please note the images used are for guidance only.
Barrel Vault Rooflights
Continuous rooflights are triple glazed as standard and formed from enhanced UV-protected polycarbonate with vented airspaces to satisfy Part L requirements. Single and double skin options are also available however these fall outside Part L requirements. The integral cascade water management system ensures that moisture drains to the outside of the building and air leakage meets Part L criteria.
The continuous rooflights are available up to 2.4m wide in both barrel vault and linked pyramid options. They are manufactured nominally in one metre sections, which interlock—facilitating easy on site assembly. This provides designers, architects and contractors with a wide range of design options.

Solarglaze rooflights are made of aluminium with an insulated plywood kerb and a fully sealed 32 mm double glazed unit comprising 8 mm clear toughened outer, 16 mm Argon filled cavity and 8.4/8.8mm clear laminated inner pane, which achieves a noise reduction of 34 dB. Solarglaze Electric Glass Skylight
Solarglaze electric double glazed glass rooflights offer a flat glass construction with a built in chain operator built into the supplied upstand. The unit comes complete with a controller and control panel and has various accessories available including a rain sensor and wind sensor.
Solarglaze rooflights are manufactured from aluminium with an insulated plywood kerb and a fully sealed 32 mm double glazed unit comprising an 8 mm clear toughened outer, 16 mm argon filled cavity and an 8.4/8.8mm clear laminated inner pane, which achieves a noise reduction of 34 dB.

Solarglaze Walk On Skylight
Solarglaze Walk On fixed double glazed glass rooflights offer a flat glass construction which allows the largest possible amount of light to be bought into a room. With its sleek appearance and excellent thermal qualities it combines good aesthetics with impressive technical ability. Solarglaze rooflights are made of aluminium with an insulated plywood kerb and a fully sealed 49.84 mm double glazed unit comprising of a 25.04 mm clear toughened and heat strengthened outer pane, 16mm Argon filled cavity and a 8.8mm clear laminated low 'E' inner pane, which achieves a noise reduction of -34 dB. A 150 mm high kerb supplied as standard, with a 300 mm high kerb available on request.
Solarglaze Top Only Skylight
Solarglaze fixed rooflights to suit a builders timber kerb offer a flat glass construction which allows the largest possible amount of light to be brought into a room. Supplied with a polyester powder coated aluminium frame to suit your existing or new timber kerbs. This option is popular with contractors who wish to construct their own kerb, enabling the rest of the roof to be weathered before the rooflight is delivered.
The glazing is a fully sealed 32mm double glazed unit comprising an 8mm clear toughened outer, 16mm Argon-filled cavity and 8.4/8.8mm clear laminated Low-E inner pane.
Astroglaze Glass Skylight
Astroglaze glass rooflights are designed to provide high levels of natural daylight with excellent aesthetics, high insulation values and simple on-site installation. All units feature sealed double glazed units contained within a thermally enhanced aluminium frame which is available in either a white or slate grey finish as standard (see photographs opposite).
They are designed to sit over builders timber kerbs and can be made to order to custom sizes in either single piece units or large multi-section units.
The standard glazing is supplied clear with a 90mm wide sandblasted 'band' around the perimeter of the unit which covers up the top of the kerb and any roof material creating a smart appearance when viewed from either below or above. Other glazing options are available, including solar control glass, tinted glass and fully sandblasted glass.
The glass roof lights are supplied with a double glazed glass unit as standard which comprises a 6mm toughened outer pane, 18mm argon filled cavity and a 6.8mm Low-E laminated inner pane.

Astroglaze Glass Access Hatch
We can supply access hatch rooflights from a minimum size of 780mm x 780mm (external weathered kerb dimensions) up to a maximum size of 1380mm x 1380mm (external weathered kerb dimensions). They are available in both manual and electric variants in square and rectangular sizes to suit new or existing kerbs. They are also available in a polyester powder coated grey or white finish.
Multi-Part Astroglaze Skylight
We can accommodate requirements to cover large areas by using a multi-part system in which the rooflight supplied in sections for easy on-site assembly. Supports are provided and then a silicone seal is required to secure the join between the panes with the outer faces of the complete rooflight still sitting over a builders kerb in the traditional way. This method allows very large areas to be covered with this flat glass range of rooflights and they are available externally polyester powder coated in grey or white just like the single units shown above.
PVC Skylights with flat double glazed glass units are available in two different kerb options and a variety of fixed and hinged ventilation options.
Mark 1 Vertical Kerb
This PVC kerb is fully thermally-broken and externally keyed allowing easy bonding during the installation process and is fully compatible with all roofing membranes. There is a weather bar to protect the edge of the exposed waterproofing membrane. Due to its cellular construction, there is no cold bridging, reducing the risk of condensation and ensuring good insulation and low U values.
Finally, there is a flexible metal foot termination piece which can be manufactured to offer total flexibility in terms of height, insulation configuration and angle of splay to suit any roof opening size.
Mark 2 Splayed Kerb
This PVC kerb is manufactured using an 'all thermoplastic construction' for outstanding thermal efficiency, high resistance to weathering and low maintenance. The Mark 2 is formed from enhanced UV protected polycarbonate with vented airspaces. The integral cascade water management system ensures that moisture drains to the outside of the building and air leakage meets Part L criteria.
A 2mm thick wall thickness ensures weld strength and a weather seal on all opening rooflights maintains weather-tightness. A special 'key' finish to the PVC assists adhesion of a membrane and the kerb is torch-on system friendly.
Mark 2 Vertical Kerb
This variant of the Mark 2 kerb is vertical to allow maximum light using a cost effective design whilst still achieving outstanding thermal efficiency, high resistance to weathering and low maintenance. The Mark 2 is formed from enhanced UV protected polycarbonate with vented airspaces. The integral cascade water management system ensures that moisture drains to the outside of the building and air leakage meets Part L criteria. There is a metal foot termination piece which is supplied to enable easy fitting of this kerb direct to the roof deck.
The ventilation frame is constructed from a single, highly complex, PVC profile designed to efficiently 'dock' between the glazing module and either the kerb adaptor profile or the kerb, creating a secure, weathered and warm connection with no cold bridges.
The ventilation zone arrangement is flexible depending on the specifiers requirements. For example it can include the following features:
- A unique continuous hinge is available which facilitates the opening of the ventilation zone and glazing (manually or electrically actuated). This allows for high volume air ventilation.
- A PVC extruded profile rotary ventilator system can be mounted in the sidewall of the accessory frame. The cylindrical shape protects it from the outside elements using a continuous cowl feature and can be protected with integral insect mesh. The vent is simply operated by rotating the operating handle.
AOV's, or Automatic Opening Vents, are rooflights which have been designed to reduce smoke build-up and therefore provide a safer escape route for the buildings occupants.
In the even of a fire smoke detectors instruct AOVs to open which allows cool air into the building and allow hot air and smoke to escape, resulting in improved conditions for the occupants to escape and for fire fighters to enter.
In the absence of a method of smoke ventilation, smoke fills the room being drawn back down from the ceiling by convection as temperatures rise, leading to potential - and particularly dangerous - 'flashover'. This is the stage of a fire whereby a room or other confined area becomes so heated that the flames flash over and through the vapours being produced by heated combustible contents in the space.
The specific design of an effective and safe AOV smoke ventilation system requires specialist involvement, perhaps by the mechanical and electrical consultant, and may well form part of a fire engineering solution.
Stardome Smoke Vents
Stardome smoke vent rooflights can be supplied with their own kerb for fixing directly to the roof deck from either aluminium or PVC, and then weathered in the traditional manner with the roofing membrane being dressed up the outside of an insulated kerb. Alternatively if a kerb is being constructed as part of the roofing system (metal roofing or a builders timber kerb) we are able to supply a kerb adaptor manufactured in aluminium to suit your exact kerb sizes. Both aluminium options are polyester powder coated white as standard and can be thermally broken to suit the requirements of Part L of the building regulations.
Single hinged units available opening to 90° or 140° whereas double pitch units are only available with 90° openings. The lid or top of the unit can be supplied in three forms:
- Solid metal panel, insulated and polyester powder coated - Generally at the head of a smoke shaft when only ventilation is required instead of natural light.
- Glazed top in single, double or triple skin polycarbonate.
- Glazed top with a double glazed glass unit with a toughened outer pane and laminated inner pane.
Stardome AOV louvred smoke vents are lightweight, compact, maintenance free and suitable for installation on flat or pitched roofs. The multi-channel drainage system and overlapping louvres guarantee a rain-proof system. All components are corrosion resistant and the ventilator side panels are reinforced by inner and outer longitudinal profiles. The louvred smoke vents must be fitted to builders timber kerbs and flanges are provided to suit almost any specific requirements.
A choice of louvre blade materials is available, including those that allow daylight into the building:
- Single skinned aluminium.
- Double skinned aluminium.
- Multi-wall polycarbonate.
- Single skinned laminate safety glass.
The Stardome single hinged smoke vents can be thermally broken to meet Part L of the building regulations (when supplied with a triple skin polycarbonate top) and they will also comply to BSEN12101-2.
The double pitch smoke vents can not be thermally broken to meet Part L of the building regulations, but it will comply to BSEN12101-2.
The louvred smoke vent can not be thermally broken to meet Part L of the building regulations and will not comply to
All Stardome smoke vents operate via a 24V DC power open/power close actuator, which must be operated by a CE certified battery backed control panel.
Thermadome Smoke Vent
Thermadome smoke vent rooflights are supplied with their own PVC kerb for fixing directly to the roof deck and then weathered in the traditional manner with the roofing membrane being dressed up the outside of the PVC. Alternatively if a kerb is being constructed as part of the roofing system (metal roofing or a builders timber kerb) we are able to supply a cowl detail to cover the join between the supplied PVC kerb and the existing kerb. PVC kerbs are available in 150mm and 300mm heights in a wide range of standard sizes with 140° hinged opening.
A typical Thermadome automatic smoke vent system includes the smoke vent located at the highest point of an escape route staircase or at the top of a smoke shaft. Smoke detectors and manual control points are normally located on each floor and the entire system can be controlled by a Therma-vent control panel.
Thermadome smoke vents are available in a wide range of standard sizes and with various glazing option choices (double or triple skin polycarbonate with a clear, opal diffused, or bronze finish) with a large selection available on very short lead times.
The smoke vent control panel is supplied ready to install with batteries fitted and all internal wiring complete and tested. This enables quick installation times with virtually no scope for wiring errors. It can be installed to operate as a simple centralised 'standalone' system or as a larger decentralised or 'networked' system with additional control panels (see diagrams below).
The system can be designed to automatically open on receipt of a smoke signal or it can be controlled by the control panel on instruction of the fire services. Alternatively the Thermadome smoke vents can be linked to a Building Management System (BMS) for complete monitoring.
The Thermadome single hinged smoke vents meet Part L of the building regulations (when supplied with a triple skin polycarbonate top) and they will also comply to BSEN12101-2.
