The business is involved in the manufacture of quality machined components and assemblies over an expanse of different materials and engineering practices within the engineering sector and the wider industry. 

    Prime Engineering Cornwall Ltd carries out a wide range of manufacturing processes driven by a diverse and adaptable facility proven in comprehensive manufacturing techniques and sound knowledge of the engineering industry which allows us to manufacture a wide variety of components and assemblies over varying complexities and find an in-house solution to many engineering projects.

    If the answer is yes but is not covered within our In-House Services, there is no need to worry; we have a wealth of trusted suppliers that allow us to offer a variety of external services as required by our customers.

    We can offer advice about recommended finishing processes for your product.

    Logistics & Collection / Delivery 

    At Prime Engineering Ltd, we have dedicated equipment to transport your products including loading/ unloading on our site. We work with transport companies to cater for additional needs as required up and down the country.

    Prime Engineering Ltd offers Conventional Turning on one of our machine tools with an array of tooling and work-holding equipment to allow for the machining across many components and applications.

    Our range for conventional turning is as follows: 

    • Maximum bar diameter: 80mm 
    • Swing range: 250mm
    • Distance between centres: 800mm

    Prime Engineering Ltd offers Conventional Milling on one of our machine tools with an array of tooling and work-holding equipment to allow for the machining across many components and applications.

    Our range for conventional milling is as follows: 

    • X axis: 750mm

    Surface Grinding

    Surface Grinding 

    Prime Engineering Ltd is equipped with two surface grinding machine tools to cater for a variety of surface grinding techniques and component sizes. Our Jakobsen surface grinder features a Z axis incremental down-feed to automate larger grinding operations. For smaller grinding jobs, such as cutting tool manufacture or gauge making, our Jones and Shipman 540 is utilized.

    Our range for Surface Grinding is as follows: 

    • Jakobsen: X axis: 800mm, Y axis: 500, Z axis: 290mm with incremental down-feed. 
    • Jones and Shipman: X axis: 450mm, Y axis: 150mm, Z axis: 190mm

    Centreless Grinding

    Prime Engineering Ltd offers through feed Centreless Grinding on our BSA No.4 centreless to cater for components requiring precise finished diameters with a high quality surface finish. 

    Our range is as follows: 

    • Ground Diameter range: 2mm - 100mm
    • Ground Length range: 150mm  

    Internal Keyway Cutting

    Internal Keyway Cutting 

    Internal key seating operations are carried out at Prime Engineering Ltd including in house manufacture of all necessary tooling required including any special fixturing.

    Standard sized key way cutting tools are made to nominal standard widths with a plus 0.05mm tolerance.

    Ensuring a Correct Fit

    Gauging for all sizes of key way required is produced in house. This consists of a shaft ground to the requisite bore size, a key way machined into the shaft and a standard sized square key fitted into the shaft which is the used as a gauge.

    Our capacity ranges from 2mm to 20mm width with a vertical capacity of around 150mm.

    Welding & Fabrication: TIG Welding, MIG Welding

    Our dedicated fabrication workshop caters for the cutting, preparation, welding and fabrication of components and assemblies. 

    MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding: We offer MIG welding for low-volume Mild Steel fabrication. 

    TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welding: We offer TIG welding for components in Mild Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminium.

    At Prime Engineering Ltd, we understand that Engineering is not always straight-forward and creative solutions are required. 

    We adopt a 'There is always a solution' approach to manufacturing and are able to offer advice and solutions to component manufacture. 

    Tooling, Work-holding and Manufacturing Processes 

    We are able to review our customers requirements and produce custom tooling and custom work-holding to provide accurate and efficient results. Be it a tool to machine multiple operations in one go, or a fixture to hold un-common shapes/ features of a component- or simply to complete multiple operations in one set up or one machine cycle Prime Engineering Ltd can help and offer a solution. 

    One of our recent projects was to automate cutting of extruded tube on a manual saw to improve efficiency and safety for the operator in which a custom jig was made to sit on the saw for accurate and safe repetition of the cutting operation. Photos can be seen within our case study area on our website.

    At Prime Engineering Ltd we offer a reverse engineering service in which we review a sketch, component, assembly and/or project and are able to take accurate measurements, produce a 3D model and drawing(s) and manufacture to requirements.
