R H G Stone Engineering's policy over the years to invest in large equipment and facilities allows us to offer a comprehensive service in both fabrication & machining. This enables us to carry out complete manufacture in house and our customers to single source different manufacturing processes thus reducing costs and shortening lead times.
Machining facilities include large conventional & C.N.C. Milling & Turning. Cylindrical External & Internal Surface Grinding, C.N.C. Turning, Horizontal Boring, Planning & Slotting. Work carried out includes manufacture of precision rollers, machining of large/small fabricated items, castings and components. Complex components requiring special purpose tooling & modification of existing machines are welcome
The Mazak V20E Machining Centre can be seen here final boring the tube holes in a copper firebox front plate for a Steam locomotive.
The copper plate billet measured 1800 x 1500 x 25 mm and was first machined to thickness leaving an up stand area into which the tube and stay holes are machined. The shape required for the up stand had to be given a three dimensional transformation. This was achieved by using Mazak's 3D SOFTWARE.
We operate a large range of centre lathes from small 200 mm diameter up to the 1220 mm diameter swing of the S.A.F.O.P combination lathe / grinder shown.
This machine has a double slide way arrangement cast as one bed way such that components can be turned & ground in the same set up. It's capacity is such that it will handle components up to 10 tonne & has operating centres of 7500 mm.
Machine is also equipped for automatic positive & negative cambering.
In addition to the manufacture of individual components our facilities enable us to offer sub assembly and complete machine build including refurbishment or modifications of existing equipment to customer's requirements. Subsequent on site installation can be arranged. We are also willing to manage prior to manufacture detail design using appropriate design companies to achieve customer's requirements.
We currently operate 3 Butler Elgamills. The largest of which has a 12 metre table.
A key feature of these machines is the fixed bed construction which allows very complex components to be machined . The travelling column and universal head combination then allows many different angles and faces to be worked on in the same set up.
These machines are also fitted with programmable digital readouts to aid production.
This is a high precision Cylindrical grinder which is mounted on a reinforced concrete base isolated from the surrounding area. Its main capacity is 630 mm diameter swing by 4000 mm between centres & has electronic in feed for precise control.
The table can be set up to 4 degrees for taper grinding & it is also possible to rotate the wheel head and the work head.
Internal grinding from 100 mm minimum diameter by 500 mm length can also be carried out
