Tetronics’ plasma waste recovery plants offer a near zero waste outcome across a growing number of applications, including those with PCB, Dioxin and other organics contamination. The decontamination process in Tetronics’ plasma enhanced waste recovery technology is designed to separate and destroy the hazardous components leaving a non hazardous material with a valuable secondary use. The intense temperature and light applied in the plasma process results in an extremely high Destruction and Removal Efficiency (DREs) with levels of 99.9999% typically achieved. The remaining material is an inert product called Plasmarok™ that can be employed in a range of applications, such as a simple construction aggregate, enabling our customers to extract value from their waste and reduce landfill liabilities.

Tetronics offers waste treatment plants to meet a growing number of waste management challenges, including for the treatment of Spent Potliner (SPL). The process chemistry in Tetronics’ patented waste treatment technology is robust and tolerant of a Fluorinated chemical environment. It is designed to separate and destroy the hazardous components of SPL leaving a non hazardous material. This remaining material is vitrified into an inert, safely disposable non hazardous material in a single processing step. The recovery process has exceptional environmental and commercial credentials and can be considered as a future proof solution for SPL waste management problems.

Precious metal recovery from spent catalyst waste

Tetronics has extensive experience in the delivery of metal recovery plants specifically designed for the recovery of PGMs from catalyst wastes. The process chemistry in Tetronics’ patented plasma waste recovery technology is designed to smelt and preferentially separate the precious metals from the less valuable material, which is vitrified into an inert, safe, disposable non hazardous material in a single processing step. The high specific values of these waste streams provide a compelling justification for investment in a plasma based precious metal recovery plant; capital payback is typically achieved within 1–2 years at waste throughputs of 1,500–2,000 tonnes per year.

Metal recovery from mine tailing

Tetronics offers metal recovery plants to meet a growing number of resource recovery challenges including recovering valuable materials from a range of difficult to process mining tailings. With Tetronics’ plasma enhanced treatment technology, the chemical process that takes place in their plasma furnace during the smelting process is designed to preferentially separate the valuable metal and minerals from the waste material while destroying any hazardous elements. Tetronics has extensive experience in the delivery of metal and mineral recovery plants specifically designed for the recovery of zinc, and other materials such as chromium and nickel from Steel plant EAF dust. In Tetronics’ plasma enhanced material recovery technology, the process chemistry is designed to smelt and preferentially separate the valuable material and destroy the hazardous components, leaving the non hazardous material. The remaining non-valuable material is vitrified into an inert, safe disposable non hazardous material in a single processing step. A typical payback period of three years, or less, can be achieved by installing a Tetronics plant.

Precious metal recovery from Electrical Equipment

Tetronics offers metal recovery plants to meet a growing number of resource recovery challenges including for the extraction of precious metals from WEEE. The process chemistry in Tetronics’ plasma enhanced recovery technology is designed to symbiotically and preferentially separate and recover the valuable material whilst destroying any hazardous components. The remaining non-valuable material is vitrified into an inert, safe disposable non hazardous material in a single processing step. Any plastics can be converted to synthesis gas for direct utilisation or used as a fuel supplement minimising the plasma power requirements.

Precious metal recovery from Electrical Equipment

Stabilising and reducing the volume of radioactive waste

Using Tetronics’ plasma waste treatment technology, a considerable stabilisation and decrease in the volume of radioactive waste can be achieved before intermediate storage and then geological disposal. Overall, the combination of volume reduction and end product stability makes the plasma process particularly attractive for the treatment of all forms of hazardous wastes and, especially, nuclear wastes. The capital and decommissioning costs for a plasma plant are similar to those of a cementation plant. However, our analysis comparing the lifetime cost savings of using plasma vitrification instead of cementation for unprocessed wet Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) inventory amounts to billions of pounds in the UK alone. In summary, the Tetronics plasma process produces a waste product, which is stable on a geological time scale and compact, thereby reducing life cycle costs.
