Thumb Screws

Thumb screws come in several different types. Screws with either tall headed sides or sides that are ridged (commonly known as knurled) are classed as thumb screws. Similarly, screws with a flat sided vertical head are also referred to as thumb screws. As they can be loosened or tightened easily, they are especially useful for devices that require frequent removal or adjustment. Thumb screws come in various sizes and specifications, but their basic application remains essentially the same in all. In effect, thumb screws act like a bolt. Whatever the specification, thumb screws will remain in place even when loosened, due to the washer that is used to set the screw in place. Certain thumb screws do come with screwdriver slots and can also be tightened by means of a wrench or pliers. Thumb screws have multiple uses but they are most commonly found in industrial machinery. Often thumb screws are used as fasteners on components that demand regular reinstallation or maintenance. Machine covers and safety guards are other uses for thumb screws.
