Flats and Parallels

Flats and parallels are designed to check the flatness and parallelism of micrometer with a high degree of accuracy. Flats and parallels are a simple and effective way of checking the flatness of reflective surfaces. Both flats and parallels are round in shape and usually between 12mm to 20mm with a polished surface. To check the parallelism between the measuring faces a user places the optical in a parallel position to the anvil and then observes and counts the number of interference fringes which are produced on the spindle side. The measuring force is recorded in micrometers. Feeler gauges are used by those in fields of mechanical engineering, metalworking, science and medicine.
