Lifting Gantries
Lifting gantries are a type of crane built atop a gantry, which is a structure used to straddle an object or workspace. In terms of size, lifting gantries range from these enormous gantry cranes, able to lift some of the world’s heaviest loads, to small shop cranes, like those used in lifting automobile engines out of vehicles. Lifting gantries are also known as portal cranes, the portal being the empty space straddled by the gantry. The terms lifting gantry, gantry crane and overhead crane are also used to describe any type of lift built on a gantry. Lots of industries rely on the lifting gantries, from ship-building and automotive manufacturing to freight.
