Compression Springs

Compression springs can be made from various materials, although carbon steel and stainless steel are the most common. Depending on the intended application, the ends of compression springs can be open, closed or ground. Typical wire size for a compression spring is from 0.20mm to 0.19mm. There are three main types of compression spring. These are conical compression springs – commonly seen in everyday items, such as padlocks and battery terminals; barrel compression springs (also known as convex springs). These have a wider diameter in the middle than the ends, making them less likely to bed under a load; and hourglass compression springs, which have a wider diameter at the ends of the spring. Compression springs can be found in a massive range of mechanical products. From door locks to compressors to switches and valves, the compression spring is a mainstay of all these types of application.
