Correctable Ribbons

Correctable ribbons have been essential to working of any typewriter for more than 100 years. Correctable ribbon is a plastic ribbon with a black ink coating on it. When a key is pressed on the keyboard, a metal die strikes this ribbon and due to the pressure placed on it, ink is transferred to the paper making the shape of an alphabet. These ribbons play a fundamental role in functioning of any typewriter and the pressing of a die to paper with correctable ribbon in between has been the main scene associated with typewriting. Correctable ribbons are named so because their ink can be corrected for removing any mistakes from the paper, but only by using a lift-off tape. Not all ribbon use such an ink and often it’s almost impossible for removing ink of a typewriter ribbon from a paper.
