Steel Erectors

It is the responsibility of steel erectors to assemble and fix the metal framework that forms the structure of buildings and other constructions. A steel erector will fix together prefabricated steel girder, pipework and sections to set up the ‘skeleton’ of the building. These tradesmen will work to engineering drawings drawn up by design engineers in building the framework. They will normally use mobile elevated work platforms to access heights safely. The heavy steelwork is lifted by tower cranes and the erectors will guide it into position before bolting or welding it together. Steel erectors work in the construction and engineering industries on a wide range of projects, from single storey commercial buildings to office blocks, factories and housing developments. They may work on infrastructure projects like bridges and gantries; and public access buildings such as sports stadia and hospitals.
