Investment Casting
Investment casting is a process used in manufacturing whereby a wax pattern is coated with a ceramic material. The ceramic material then hardens and adopts the shape of the casting. Materials which are used in investment casting include brass, stainless steel alloys, aluminium, glass, aluminium alloys, bronze alloys, magnesium alloys, cast iron, and tool steel and carbon steel. Variations of investment casting include counter-gravity casting and vacuum pressure casting. Investment casting is used to make shapes which are complex in geometry including fireman components and turbine blades. Other industries which used investment casting include aircraft, automotive and military.
