We like this printer because unlike most industrial printers you can use virtually any roll of labels regardless of whether they are paper, polypropylene, vinyl, direct thermal, thermal transfer, on 25mm, 38mm, 44mm or 76mm core.  Also unlike many competitors you can print labels as narrow as 20mm and a small as 5mm long (in continuous mode).

This printer also uses ink ribbons that are either outside wound our inside wound so a larger variety of ink ribbons can be used.

The Brother TJ-4020TN is a superb, hard wearing, economical to use, industrial label printer. The printer can print onto paper and synthetic (polypropylene, vinyl, polyester etc) labels by using an ink ribbon or it can be used in 'direct thermal' mode using direct thermal (heat sensitive) labels that do not require an ink ribbon.  Unlike cheaper alternatives this printer is a very solid and robust unit with a durable metal casing and will give many years of use.  The well thought out design is excellent and makes it very easy to use. 

Larger 450 metre long ink ribbons can be used with this printer reducing the 'cost per label' price!   The printer is 203dpi (dots per inch) and offers superb, sharp print quality on both paper and synthetic labels.

You can also use cheaper large rolls of labels (up to 200mm in diameter) which also means you will not be changing the roll so often, so less printer downtime.

Ethernet Network adapter is fitted as standard and the printer also has USB, USB Host and serial connectivity.

Bartender (UltraLight Edition) is included as a free download.  This is an easy to use label design software that enables you to create labels using text, barcodes, graphics and lines etc.  This is a totally 'free to use forever' software.  If you need the ability to print from databases, print sequential number or/and sequential barcodes the you can upgrade this to Bartender Professional Edition.

Brother offer a free 3 year warranty with this label printer.  This is the longest standard warranty period in the industry.  Other warranty options coming soon!
