Outdoor Cable

A cable consists of two or more wires running side by side which are bonded or twisted together. This forms a single assembly which can be used to connect two devices or transfer electrical signals. For cables that are to be used outside, the outer sheath must be protected by a material which is UV-resistant so it is not degraded over time by the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Insulation so that it is water-resistant is also crucial. There are different kinds of outdoor cable. The armoured cable which is used for the bulk transmission of alternating and direct current power on pylons is an outdoor cable. Hybrid cables are also used outside for antenna mounted on towers for wireless fibre-to-the-antenna (FTTA) applications. The optical fibres carry information and the electrical conductors transmit the power. Direct burial cables are laid underground with a waterproof gel or tape inside the cable to prevent moisture seeping into it. Such cables can be used for accessing the power supply in the garden or for cable TV and so on. Similarly cables are laid under the sea for long-distance communication. Outdoor cables can be found everywhere whether it is to facilitate communication or to bring the power supply to buildings.
