Petrochemicals

Petrochemicals, are chemicals obtained from petroleum, natural gas, coal or other sources and are an essential product of the chemical industry. The majority of petrochemicals are made from the raw materials of oil or natural gas, as these are the most readily available, least expensive, and can be processed into the primary petrochemicals easily. There is a range of primary petrochemicals available, these include Methanol, Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene and Benzene. These are made into more complicated derivative products by way of chemical conversion. These derivative products are then used to produce a variety of end use products. The derivative products of Petrochemicals are used to engineer and produce a wide variety of products in manufacturing. Including; styrene used in plastic and rubber manufacturing, resin manufacture, ethylene glycol used to make polyester for the textile industry, and PVC – used to manufacture windows and other products.
